This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: walkerpThey are technically quite good, but to my mind, they don't capture a moment, a situation the way so many of those early Dragon magazine covers captured.

The problem that I have with many Dragon covers as RPG covers (and with some RPG covers) is that RPGs are generally not games about heroic individuals.  I want to see parties, teams, groups doing things that characters will do in the game.

For example (from RPGnet's archives) these Elmore covers:

Or these:

It's interesting that the standard group depicted on covers is often 3 protagonists.

I very much agree.  I think, though, that it's the later Dragon covers that were individual-only (like every single one from 2000 to the end).  The older ones had a lot of party situations depicted.

See, I have the Agone book and the cover didn't really stand out to me.  In fact, I hardly glanced at it until it was mentioned earlier in this thread.  The interior of the book is very attractive though, aside from some of the off-proportion character renditions on the color pages.

Probably my all-time favorite Dragon cover.
"Illegitimis non carborundum." - General Joseph "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

I...obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.

At ALL.

Sorry, but yes. Your knowledge of UK regionalisms is somewhat lacking. :D
