This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

You know, you're forgetting one other option for half-races:  genetics just do not work in this make-believe world like they do in our world.  Science doesn't have to always be right.

That's the baseline munchkin excuse: it a fantasy world. I can be a half-grell who can do ballet in full field plate and dual-weild longbows!

All settings are compromises between entertainment & suspension of disbelief. But for me, half-breeds is a long step across the lameness line. Of course, so are non-human races without any negative penalties.

I actually had more to my last post about this, but decided to delete it since it wasn't exactly on topic.  It was pointing out that it's the setting designer's (or the player who's modifying a setting) job to figure out what racial combinations are viable in their particular setting.  I know I got rather turned off from seeing so many half-drows and half-giant-dragon-humans running around Faerun at the game table.  Munchkins, ruining our favorite settings, one continent at a time.
