Title: [Creature] The Dragon Turtle made up as a true dragon.
Post by: Krishnath on March 06, 2006, 03:01:12 PM
Basically, the reason I made this was because I was tired of seeing the Dragon Turtle be treated as a second class dragon when it deserves to be treated as something more than just another creature to kill. Also, I felt a need for a purely aquatic dragon, one that was not aligned with neither good or evil.

You will note that the Juvenile age category matches up statwise with the Dragon Turtle stats in the revised MM, this was quite intentional. I also worked into it's personality the reason behind why most dragon turtles encountered are of that particular size and power, and why the really big ones are rarely seen. I also had to create a new breathweapon table to handle the cloud shaped breathweapons of Dragon Turtles, and I must say that I am very happy with the result. The whole creature seems balanced, but I would like some input and comments nevertheless. :D

Comments and critizism will be greatly appreciated. Flames will be ignored.

As always, you're free to use this as long as you credit me. :D

Heh. Dragon, ignores flames. Heh. ;)

Nice job. They spend an awful lot of time at size huge; why no colossal turtles?

It's just the way it worked out, compare it to other of the smaller true dragons, and you will see that it is roughly on par with them.

Now if you really want them colossal, there are rules for giving dragons more than 12 age categories both in the ELH and the Draconomicon. :D

The only thing I thought of is I wish it was faster while swimming.  I don't know enough about turtles to know if they swim fast or not.  I keep picturing one chasing a ship and catching it, not being left behind.

Well, since I based it of the MM Dragon Turtle, I was pretty limited to what speeds I could give it. However, the dragon turtle is primarily an ambush predator, and my version is no different. It's coloration, the fact that it has hide as a class skill, and its capsize ability all reflect this.
