This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Here I'm wanting to try something new. A bit like the creatures-by-poll and other one-step-at-a-time, but different.

The idea is to start from an oddity and then try to design concepts that would justify it. Submit your concept and, if you feel like it, you can suggest stats.

It could then go the CbP or OSaaT way to fully flesh out the creature.

Anyway, to start, I'll set the challenge to be:
Construct (Incorporeal, Living Construct)

Can you imagine a creature that would need this unlikely association of types and subtypes?

Construct (Incorporeal, Living Construct)

(Pffft, too easy)

Wizards have long had to guard their vaults and chambers from those who could become intangible. Some of the more powerful have created "Scream Golems" that are created through vile necromancy, the destruction of a scream, and sacrificing a ghost.

This creature, while living, is still a mindless slave while the owner lives, although a dim intellect constantly strives to break free. Once the owner dies, the construct gains it's own life force by taking a portion of the creator's soul.

A "Scream Golem" is incorpreal, allowing it to pass through walls in order to quickly engage or retreat from opponents, as well as making it immune to many weapons and spells.

(Want another one? Maybe for Modern, even future?)

My thought was actually to have a construct that either was awakened or made as a living construct.  Then they were turned into a ghost.

I'm not even sure if you can have both the contruct template and undead template at the same time though.

How about a cheap one?

Quote
During the war on Ebberron, many Warforged found themselves "seperated" from reality, made completely incorpreal, and forced to live out thier lives in this fashion. Many have become insane...

Shadowforged

Constructed as more the ultimate assasins during the last war, the shadow constructs were a very well kept secret. Like the warforged, each was given intelligence and free will, so that they might better serve their masters.

Few were made, and fewer yet survive.

Hmmmm...thats interesting.  Makes sense I was always going the undead/ghost route.  Of course if we go only by the listed templates it couldn't be undead.

So we have

1. Incorporeal golem
2. Warforged accidentally incorporeal
3. Warforged designed to go incorporeal
4. Awakened illusion

Damn, those are all worth stealing. Kudos to all. :)

Sound Golem.

Using particularly obscure and tricky magic, the crafter has to collect and contain noises and sounds for the construction of this golem, then bind them together magically into a single being. Having no physical form, a sound golem can transmit itself through any substance capable of conducting sound waves.

A Sound Golem constantly emits a barrage of noises - those sounds from which it was crafted, though normally it keeps these down to a respectable volume.

It attacks by occupying the same space as the creature it is attacking. It can deal lethal or nonlethal sonic damage in such a fashion - when dealing lethal damage its volume is much louder, rising to a deafening cacaphony. Typically it wanders around dealing nonlethal damage so as not to destroy the walls and objects it is passing through. Switching from nonlethal to lethal damage or back again is a full round action.

If a Sound Golem attempts to move through a physical barrior while in "loud, lethal damage-dealing" mode, it is limited to moving 5' per round through the substance, dealing its full damage to the substance per round.

Though it has no form, a Sound Golem still takes up a physical space, roughly equivelent to a four foot wide sphere. It possesses DR 10/magic, in addition to the regular protections of an incorporeal creature.
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.
