Hi guys.  Anyone actually bought/played/read the DCC Lankhmar boxed set: either hard copy or pdf? I'm debating whether I should buy it.  I know if Michael Curtis did it then it has to be petty good.  How does it compare to other Lankhmar projects? AD&D first edition, AD&D second edition, Mongoose, etc.?  Any good?  How would you rank the various Lankhmar versions that have been put out over the years?  How does it stand up as a faithful reproduction of the world of the Fafhrd and Mouser stories? Does it feel like you're there while reading it or playing it? And how integrated into the DCC system (which I'm not a fan of) is it? Can I use what's there and ignore the DCC crap or is it too integrated to be done easily?

You might find that thread useful. I picked up DCC last month, but I don't have the Lanhkmar box.

I can't speak to any comparison between this and other versions of Lankhmar, but I have the boxed set and have read through some of the setting material. The alterations to the DCC core rules are excellent (no clerics), and from what I've read, the setting material is true to the stories. I understand there's a line of Lankhmar adventures out now, but the box only came with a first level adventure. It is creative and fun, dealing with magical shrinkage, a hungry three-legged cat, and rat schemes.

I have the boxed set and several modules from the kickstart. I think that if you like the DCC RPG in general, you will love the DCC Lankhmar setting. It has a clear Nehwon vibe to it, with a nice mix of fun with dark the same way that Leiber did it. The artwork helps to build the feel of Lankhmar, much the way that DCC artwork tends to capture the old "Appendix N" feel in other products. Goodman Games did a great job with it, IMO.

In general I have found that I can use DCC products in my old-school D&D games without too many issues. A level in DCC is roughly 2 levels in D&D, from my experience. Should be worthwhile to read through, even if you aren't a fan of the DCC RPG.

I have read it and do quite like what it has. It's probably closer to Lankhmar (though with an emphasis on the weirder parts of Lankhmar) than the AD&D versions. But I still have a special place in my heart for the AD&D Lankhmar set with the special rules; it was my first experience of realizing that you could change D&D rules significantly to fit a setting.
