This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm a devoted fan of both Red Dwarf and it's RPG but have not played Toon. Any other games out there that are explicitly comedic in origin?

Personally, I also tend to play D&D for the inherent silliness as well...what about you guys? Any other games that you have trouble taking seriously?

Hackmaster is comedic in play, is an hilarious read, and it's all wrapped up in a healthy nostalgia burrito!

Was Dogs in the Vineyard done as a joke - just nobody really got the punnchline?

Seriously, there is STAR THUGS - that whole thing is done very much tongue-in-cheek.

Lets not forget Human Occupied Landfill and the ultimate beer and pretzels role-playing game, Teenagers From Outer Space.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Tunnels and Trolls. Any system with magic spells called "Take that, you fiend!" and "Dear God" is obviously humorous by design.

I would quite fancy playing Munchkin RPG. Looks fun.

Toon is a lovely little game, but its surprisingly hard to run. The flavour and feel of classic cartoons is worth reaching for, but it takes some planning.

dindenver covered most of the greatest in the category.  I'm not a gurps fan but gurps iou is packed with ideas and features art by the Foglios.

I'll vouch for the d20 Munchkin stuff put out by SJGs. Not only are the books good parody, but the material is actually useful in a DnD game if you want to go for the "Silly Dungeon" night of play.

And I'm deeply offended that you did mention T&T, a game that I take totally seriously.  Especially the spell "Yassa Massa".  We play the game only for high dramatic effect.

And Koltar:  Your continued and contrived efforts to make jokes at the expense of Dogs in the Vineyard smacks of the kid on the bus who only makes fun of the smelly kid because everyone else on the bus is doing it.

NO - I honestly dislike Puppies in the Swineyard.

There are Mormons in my extended family. I've read enough about the game from pro & con sources to know that I never want to play it and I think of it as not a real RPG but as more of stunt or experiment claiming that its an RPG.
