This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hello all,

so as the title states a new paperback rpg has appeared. The author is a satirical gay R-rated writer person that has a somewhat mysterious persona(holistic medicine doctor martial arstist instructor) Chuck Tingle. The setting is about a small town where weird stuff happens. '' This rulebook contains everything a group of buckaroos will need, including four playable types (bigfoot, dinosaur, human, and unicorn), five trots (bad boy, charmer, sneak, true buckaroo, and wizard), several unique ways, as well as hundreds of cool moves that are specially crafted for each unique play style.''
So, whatddya think? Playable or too much out there?

Brad

A quick Google search leads to the Chuck Tingle wikipedia page, which states:

"In August 2016, Zoë Quinn announced that they were developing an erotic adventure game with the working title Project Tingler, in collaboration with Tingle"

It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

So is this a video game or table top RPG?

This going to be one of those things that people will only buy for the shock value or the hipster cred. Meh.

I wouldn't even pirate it. Much less buy it for any reason. Hell I wouldn't accept it for free with the author's autograph on it!

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

I saw the name "Zoë Quinn" and lost interest.

You too?  She has that ability and it is quite a curse.  I wonder why...  *Cough* Murderous Bitch *Cough*  I guess somethings are a mystery that will never be solved.

I can't see anything in the way of a real review of it. An RPGnet poster said this:

QuoteI've only browsed through it a little bit so far. The layout leaves a bit to be desired-- it's just plain text on a white background. Some actual chart-boxes would be nice. And I've already spotted at least one typo just in leafing through it.

System-wise, it seems to be a kind of D&D-alike, but I haven't read too much into it. "Cool Moves" are equivalent to various spells, obviously-- though that there's a 2nd Level cool move called "Find Keys" makes me laugh entirely too much.

Honestly, the best parts are at the beginning and the end of the book, where things are the Tingliest-- the beginning of the book lists various locations in Billings, Montana (including Ted Cobbler's House), and towards the end of the book is the monster manual, with various beasties like the Not Basketball, The Man With No Eyes and Wieners for Hair, Void Crabs, and so on. The monster bit also has crude but charming illustrations, which the rest of the book really could have benefited from.

And the description is mostly empty, except this:
QuoteThis rulebook contains everything a group of buckaroos will need, including four playable types (bigfoot, dinosaur, human, and unicorn), five trots (bad boy, charmer, sneak, true buckaroo, and wizard), several unique ways, as well as hundreds of cool moves that are specially crafted for each unique play style.
Within these 270+ pages you will also find various magical items and a menagerie of monsters, ranging from pesky Void crabs to this villainous Ted Cobbler himself.

It looks to me like a cheap marketing gimmick, which seems true to form from what I know of the author.

Oh bother. This does, as some have stated already, look dumb as fuck.

This beats out FATAL for me as "#1 RPG I'm least likely to purchase."

They're near the bottom of my list but not the #1.  I think Wraeththu the RPG beats them for me.  A game about "Gay Rapist David Bowie Lookalikes Whose Jizz is Acid."  No, thank you.
