Title: Christmas Specials?
Post by: RPGPundit on November 29, 2012, 11:55:54 AM
So, what are you planning on getting, RPG-wise for Christmas? Do you watch out for any particular holiday sales or specials.

For one example, one that just happens to be blatant and bold-faced shilling on my part, right now Precis Intermedia is having a big holiday sale, where you can get Lords of Olympus at a nice discount (http://www.pigames.net/store/default.php?cPath=113) in either the (amazing) full-color version or the also-nice B&W version!

Any other special deals yet?

Well, every year from like 2000-2006 or 2007, the huge FLGS near me had a BOGO sale on everything in the store for like prices.  So if you got, say, a copy of Necromunda you could get a copy of Space Hulk for free.

Well, every year Mrs. TheDungeonDelver would pick up a Dwarven Forge set, and then get a 2nd for free.  One year I think I got four sets...!

Alas, all good things must come to an end, and eventually the store stopped carrying DF, and shortly thereafter DF became a buy-here only type business (which is fine).

But, yeah, for a good number of years I got a swath of Dwarven Forge.  Now...?  Not so frequently.  However, this year I did ask for some Otherworld Miniatures...miniatures and I think there may be a Dwarven Forge package under the tree...! :)

I'm picking up the AD&D reprints for my nephew; I think that's about it for RPG getting and giving this year.

the Palladium Christmas Grab Bag is still going on.

Like 40 bucks for 80 or 90 bucks worth of stuff.

You tell em what you want and they give it to you if they have it in stock, or give you something similar.

I'm not buying into it though. Not only am I broke, but they don't really have anything I want anymore.

I usually do a Palladium Grab Bag. It's basically a half-off sale with autographs.

It's a good time to pick up particular Rifters that have gotten good reviews.

I wish they would put their cover art on T-shirts.  I am trying to schedule for the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise and I'd love to wear some crazy Rifts images.

You could always do it yourself. Get an image scan and then take it to a screen printer.

I'm thinking of getting Playing at the World. I've heard great things about it.

I saw this thread and thought it might be about games run as christmas specials, not about christmas sales.

Is the Goodman Games grab bag totally random?

The Palladium Grab Bag is list 10 things you want and "Santa Kevin" tries to give you the top 3-6 choices, but I have yet to get more than 1 thing that wasn't on my list.

No matter what else you can say about Palladium, their Christmas Grabbags have always been awesome.

It sounds like Goodman may be using theirs to liquidate their excess 4e stock, which is more typical for that sort of thing in my (admittedly limited) experience.

Similar to my experience. Even when I was first getting into Palladium online, Kev  & Co. did some absolute magic to get me stuff that was out of the ordinary or tough to get (i.e., once I got a Rifts mini that was out of stock, taken from Kev's private collection), and in another one, after remarking on how much I liked the artwork of Ramon Perez, I received one of the originals from his work on Rifts.

That's to say nothing of the book titles I've received.
