This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

IRL there are no Dragon PCs.
I guess that does explain why they didn't bite any holes in real life armor.

Say, if one wanted to spend some time (and gold pieces) in building a defensible structure for a gaming party, what rules/system would you adopt or pillage from?  Bonus points for upkeep and sieges.

Who has the best construction rules in your opinion?

Not so much intersted in a specific game, more so in your positive experience with construction and defense.  And looking for a middle ground between crunch and easy of play - if there is such a space.

RuneQuest 3 had reasonable rules. You had construction costs of structures, each building had Structure Points and Armour Points, so you could build walls with good Armour Points and they would protect your castle/town. Big weapons could punch through them if they did more damage than the Armour Points, as normal RQ combat. It worked reasonably well.

I don't remember building construction rules. Was that in the main RQ3 rule books?

Yes, the GM book had costs for building various types of building. I misremembered the level of detail, instead of AP/Structure, walls have just AP that you chip away at. I think I houseruled the AP/Structure to be more like Ships.

Thanks. That's not something that ever* came up in play and it's been a while since I read through those flimsy RQ3 pamphlets. Loved the box, hated the (lack of) binding on the booklets.

* Well in nearly came up in play back in the 1980s (before RQ3 was published). At the end of my first RQ campaign the players had managed to put together a coalition that kicked the Lunars out of Elkoi and installed a PC as the new king. They were going to build some fortifications. Maybe finishing something the Lunars had started. But the campaign ended before we built the fortifications or learned what the Lunar response would be.
