This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Where do you game if not at someones house?

At the beach.  Something to do rather than read while getting rays.  Generally, nice outside locations elsewhere too.
Any comment I add to forum is from complete boredom.

Quote from: RPGPundit;662851I never got the idea of gaming in a pub or bar; at least, not one that wasn't exclusively geared toward gaming.

Ay university, we used to game around a table in the student bar. It was fine, as very few cared what we were doing, few people bothered us and we had a table for around eight people.

One games group in Birmingham meets in a room above a pub (many pubs have function rooms available for hire), they buy drinks and food, everyone is happy.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend sitting in a public bar and playing, unless you have somewhere that is relatively private, if only for the noise that a game will generate.

Quote from: elfandghost;662858Most people who game in London that I know do so at pubs, the only downside is the cost. If you are playing fortnightly then that is easy £50 per month including travel and you are only looking at between 4-5 hours of play that is never enough.

I like my Beginners Tuesday at the Crosse Keys - by coincidence on Tuesdays they do steak & a drink (beer, cider etc) for £8, ie effectively a not-terrible steak dinner for around £4.50 net. Add a second pint and it's around £11.50 for the night. I usually take one extra Tube journey so +£2 for travel if I don't have a weekly travelcard running. Most people can afford that fortnightly, and some people spend less at the pub. Of course some people do spend a lot more travelling in to town. We run from 6.30pm to between 10pm and 10.30pm which gives a reasonably solid session, 3-4 hours.

Once per year we head up north to a cabin - no electricity or running water, accessible by boat, gaslights, etc.

That wasn't my recollection of London, of course, I was staying in a fancy house owned by a rock-star relative.  I also did no gaming at all while I was there.

My group usually plays at my apartment (my roommate is in the group too, so we form half the group, so it makes sense).  We do occasionally play at my buddy's work.  He helps run a local historic theater, so we play either on the stage on a card table or in the board room.  We also play in the green room or on the stage at the local college's theater that he helps run.  There's also a gaming store that we play at, and worse case scenario we hit up the Sunday school rooms at my buddie's church or Denny's.

Quote from: Monkey Boy;661703Are you in a group that meets at a venue other than someone's house or the local game store? If so where and how does it work out for your group?
A local Meetup holds its events at a KoC hall; I've played there, and it wasn't really any different from playing at a game store.

Quote from: Monkey Boy;661703I read about groups gaming at the pub which sounds great. If you've done that I would love to hear how you organised it?
I've done this, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't organise it myself, but my understanding from the person who did was that it just took a conversation with the manager to get a group of tables organised in a quiet corner.

I would love to combine backpacking or paddling with roleplaying some time - hike or paddle to a campsite, play in the evening, then repeat it all again the next day.

Next month there is a possibility that I might be running a game session at a Police Station...in their meeting room.

I got introduced to AD&D while on a Boy Scout campout. Best way to do a fantasy game is on a campout, IMHO.

Quote from: soviet;661793Like the woman who came over to me and my friend once when we were playing Magic the Gathering and accused us of contacting the devil, then flipped the table. True story!

I wish that would happen to me. God I love an easy mark.

Had an apartment in the city once next to a crazy woman who kept accusing everyone of being in league with the devil and having designs on her.

Halloween that year was a blast. Pretty sure I caused her some PSD. Rediscoveed my love of the X-Files tribute Cd "Songs in the Key of X" as well. The Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper duo was just perfect.

Exactly so.  It is a missed opportunity for many that enjoy unplugged games that's for sure.  It needn't be a full outing.  Parks and picnic places are great, but it's best to have one's own selected spot under the sky.  One could combine an astronomy outing at night with a game in the day for a true science fiction gaming weekend. It is good to take advantage of the nice locations available, especially to get away from environs too similar to work or school.

The apartment had a gigantic living room which was nice for gaming, but we're very well set up here in The Abbey now for gaming in the den; fireplace and all (though until just the last few days it wasn't yet cold enough to need it).

Great to read that the new place has come together so well, if perhaps on a Uruguay schedule.

Yes. It sure took its damn time, but now the place is really awesome.
