This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The All-Seeing Eye: the classic game you've never heard of.

Age of Fable

Hi,

Just for fun, I've put the rules for a retro-clone game on my website. European gamers in particular may find it familiar.

It's at //www.apolitical.info/webgame/eye
free resources:
Teleleli The people, places, gods and monsters of the great city of Teleleli and the islands around.
Age of Fable \'Online gamebook\', in the style of Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf and Fabled Lands.
Tables for Fables Random charts for any fantasy RPG rules.
Fantasy Adventure Ideas Generator
Cyberpunk/fantasy/pulp/space opera/superhero/western Plot Generator.
Cute Board Heroes Paper \'miniatures\'.
Map Generator
Dungeon generator for Basic D&D or Tunnels & Trolls.

Looks pretty cool! Who wrote it?

Love the Tables for Fables too. I'm setting up a T&T campaign and looks like I'll be able to create the setting in a couple of hours with these babies.
You can shake your fists at the sky. You can do a rain dance. You can ignore the clouds completely. But none of them move the clouds.

Ulrich Kiesow.

This is a (lightly edited; eg the weapons have differing damage adds) translation of Das Schwarze Auge First Edition (1984).
The spells have different names (and it might be that there are completely new spells as well, I played it only once so I won't remember everything).

The original name of the game was "Aventuria" or something like that, but the publisher wanted a more mysterious title and named the game, "The Dark Eye". The author had to put something in the game that justified the name, so he invented a magic item, the Palantir-like Dark Eye - The All-Seeing Eye.

[Edit]
Trivia: The first edition rules booklet was illustrated by Bryan "Luther Arkwright/A Tale of a One Bad Rat" Talbot.

[Edit 2]
This version of the rules bears only passing resemblance - if at all - to the current incarnation (Fourth Edition), which was published in English by Fanpro US.
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.

Not deliberately! Which ones?

only the names and magic words are meant to be different.

You're right. I broke out the book and checked the numbers. Maybe your differing notation (and order) messed with my memory.

Why did you rename the Barbarian War Axe as Executioner's Axe?

Why did you rename the Barbarian War Axe as Executioner's Axe?

For two reasons:

i) because there's already a 'battle-axe', and it seemed to me like 'battle-axe' and 'war-axe' were confusingly close.

ii) because wearing 'knightly armour' didn't seem to fit with having a 'barbarian's war axe'...although the same could be said for what I changed it to.:deflated:
