This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Not very convinced myself.  The art is nice enough, but what does this have that other sci-fi RPGs don't?  And why should we bother with some godawful white-wolf-esque dice-pool system instead of an OSR Game?
Does it even have random character generation? Or is it fucking point-buy?

QuoteNot very convinced myself. The art is nice enough, but what does this have that other sci-fi RPGs don't?

It has 500 years of history to play i9n, and ofers the players a different experience and environment depending on where during that time they play. This game can be anything from Paranoia-esque fights between companies while trying to complete an overall mission to Star Trek-esque exploration of new worlds... and it's up to the GM and players which bits they play, according to their group. Add to that the ability to play as dynasties within the Consortium and play as family member after family member... I think those are two ways (of several) it is unique.

QuoteAnd why should we bother with some godawful white-wolf-esque dice-pool system instead of an OSR Game?

A dice pool for this game has not been chosen because or White Wolf or anything else. The similarity in the basic approach is there, and if you don't like dice pool games because they are dice pool games... then this game isn't for you. If you're looking for something which is making an honest attempt at using a dice pool so that the players feel the benefit of a Normal Distribution over a "Weighted Coin Toss" Smooth Distribution, and as trying to make the players think about adding numbers as little as possible in the game (to improve immersion), this game may well be for you.

QuoteDoes it even have random character generation? Or is it fucking point-buy?

Random Character Generation is, indeed covered in the book, but the system is primarily set for point-buying, yes. The choices you make are supposed to be chosen for a reason, and with deliberate effort - being on race or another makes a significant difference to who you are, how you react to things, etc. Rather than leaving that to chance that you try to become a Ximian Worker (who have Intelligence penalties) with massive Intelligence, If you're looking for random generation, I would recommend doing random generation across all of the characters.

I'm big into sci-fi, personally, the art didn't grab me, it started with a few good pictures then descended into the tight fitting cleavage exposed costumes that are cliché of "the future". Dice pool and point buy turn me off as well; skimming through the story, it didn't seem to have much focus on starships and worldbuilding.

That extra layer of subcutaneous fat protects from the vacuum of outer space, so therefore spacesuits with cleavage; QED.

As far as a pressure suit, they would be form fitting; casual clothes, I could see more like this:
