This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

1e or 4e at this point because, as others have said, 2e is hard to get.

If you don't mind using PDFs rather than physical books, it looks like DriveThruRPG has most if not all the 2E books.

Too bad this wasn't posted a month ago; there was a Humble Bundle for WFRP that included most if not all the 4E books and the 2E books at the highest pledge (~$30/$35 if I recall).

Wrath of God

QuoteI got quite a few recommendations the only one that i'm not keen on is the one by mr. fox, he's a cunt and i'm not sure i would want to play his game even if i got it for free. (I think i actually did get it for free but the dude is such a POS it soured the grapes for me)

QuoteI'd use Zweihander. It's sleeker than WFRP4, and there is a fan made rule expansion to play using Zwei rules and WFRP setting:
https://www.kalevalahammer.com/p/blog-page_10.html

IMHO while Zweihander has some interesting ideas (few new professions are fine), interesting spell specific rules for miscast and overcast, Peril, it's also IMHO quite bloated, and not really sleeker. Like a big book of houserules that evolved into new system.

QuoteYes and no. I like SotDL, but the characters feel much more like D&D characters in a WFRP/D&D hybrid setting (and with somewhat of a WFRP life expectancy). It's a fun game, but it doesn't feel like WFRP to me. There's too little of the politics and mundane struggles that I think of eith WFRP. On the other hand, if your WFRP is more focused on the end times and fighting face to face with beasties and Chaos warriors, then SotDL may do it better.

Agree. SotDL is it's own good, but feel is far from Warhammer.

QuoteFrom what I can actually remember off hand, he and pundit I know had a back and forth but as I understand it he's harassed people not sure if it got legal or not. My reasons are he pretty much copy pasted whfrp 2e filed off the serial numbers and then aggressively goes after anyone who so much as looks at his "IP" sideways. His games lecture the reader on various isms, and my final straw for him was I went into the discord asking about the game. He's even got a bot in there that filters banned words and phrases and oh boy it is extensive. I think he makes the high lords of terra jealous with how extensive it is. Basically if you're going to play his whfrp clone then just pirate everything.

From the little bit I actually talked to him the dude just lives and breathes cringe. I didn't get banned or make a big scene I just quietly left the server and good riddance. Like you know those people you meet and you immediately know you don't like them?

This is guy who get banned even from SJW servers and sites, for how obnoxious self-centred he is.
Imagine those moments when Pundit makes somehow unnecessary adverts of Lion and Dragon here. Now umph level of annoyance 10 times, and spread it among all possible sites Fox could reach.

I myself in terms of actual Warhammer would go with 4e I guess. Opposite roll combat with advantages is IMHO way funnier than Warhammer 2e fighting. Atribute-skill advancement schemes are also better, without need to constantly move through professions as 1e and 2e had (because now progression within given profession is basically infinite.). I'd say skill based magic is bit more meh, I prefered 2e with it's take making magic bit more own thing. But it's still Warhammer Colour Winds magic dangerous enough to not use it in most situations.

Same boat, I would touch that game based on the douche canoe who "made" it.

Care to explain it? I think I can gather what happened but you might throw me for a surprise.

My big annoyance with him is how he "marketed" his game.

Sockpuppet 1: What is this amazing new Zweihander game I keep hearing about?

Sockpuppet 2: Yes - it sounds like the bestest game ever - what is it?

Sockpuppet 3: Why yes, it is amazing, and let me tell you about it...

He spammed every RPG board that I'm aware of with these, and likely many that I'm not aware of.

^ this.

Couldn't talk about WFFP anywhere without him dropping in and spamming. It got beyond old.

Wrath of God

Though I must say I've listened to him GMing few times, it was not bad. So maybe he is not utterly hopeless human skinwalker ;)

He even got banned from The Pub. Does anyone know why?

Wrath of God

IIUC for some kind of threats against other Pub-Goers on PM?

Shadow of the Demon Lord is a good choice is you want a simpler system. Most rules and adventures would fit right into Warhammer.
Chaos Factory Books  - Dark fantasy RPGs and more!

Methods & Madness - my  D&D 5e / Old School / Game design blog.

Wrath of God

Problem with Shadow is IMHO - it's more simpler dark-fantasy D&D than Warhammer.
Classess are overall well heroic classes, while professions of Warhammer RPG is mixed bag of knights, witch hunters, beggars, fishermen, tax collector, barristers and dwarven bankers.
