Whether they're short little dungeons or full-blown modules, which are the best old-school D&D adventures available for free on the intarwebs?

It's not an adventure per se but I really dig the Blackmarsh campaign setting.
Do you want actual old modules, or old school clones (like OSRIC, LL, etc)
Depends if you mean free or "free". If the latter, then almost everything is available... ;)
Castle of the Mad Mad Archmage (http://greyhawkgrognard.blogspot.dk/) is a pretty cool megadungeon.
Dragonsfoot has an excellent catalogue of free modules with very high production standards. The works of John Turcotte (Gnarleybones) are particularly excellent. Check out Where The Fallen Jarls Sleep and it's sequels. Also noteworthy is Red Tam's Bones which is a fantastic channelling of the vibe of Jonathan Strange andMr Norrelinto a kick arse adventure into the world of Faerie.
For real old school fans there is the massive L4 Devilspawn Len Lakovska's sequel to his Lendore Isle series ( Secret of Bone Hill, Assassins's Knot and Deep Dwarven Delve).
Here's what I've written...
http://www.thedelversdungeon.com/Modules/DD1.PDF - a solo player + DM module
http://www.thedelversdungeon.com/Modules/DD2.PDF - ditto
http://www.thedelversdungeon.com/Modules/WGH2.PDF - stand-alone convention module set in the World of Greyhawk.
http://www.thedelversdungeon.com/Modules/WGH3.PDF - first of a series of convention modules, set in Greyhawk.

I bet there are still a lot of folks that have never been through Temple of the Frog. So, I'll provide it as my first suggestion to play with your campaign using any given system for an adventure that takes up the great majority of the concepts that are Dungeons & Dragons. Supplement II: Blackmoor is still the one freely accessible book of Original D&D.

I really like Gabor's dungeon in this puffed-up rag:

Melan has a lot of excellent, freely available adventures and related material at his Fomalhaut website (http://fomalhaut.lfg.hu/category/english/resources/).

Yeah, Dragonsfoot has a lot of great stuff. It's a pity more people don't seem to know about their downloads section.
I also think The Fane of St. Toad (http://www.mediafire.com/?qzymhbfzydj) is worth getting.

Both!

Quite aware of that, but what I'm talking about for the purposes of this thread is any of the following:
-"amateur products" that were never intended for commercial sale
-"professional free product" that was always made as free material by some gaming company (for their website, or whatever)
-or product that was once for commercial sale but the parent company now offers it for free.

You don't get much more amateur than my stuff so knock yourself out :D
A couple of the original Midkemia books are available for free: http://www.midkemia.com/ (under Products)

The Black Tower is a good one that Midkemia offers for free, that's for sure TheHistorian. Their city specific content sure was good, as was all of their work to provide Chaosium Thieves World. They offer a compilation of town sites there too, Towns of the Outlands.
