SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I doubt the book will ever be published or the miniatures made, so there's not much reason to worry about it.  By refunding, the obligation is being cleared and that will be that.

1. I really don't get why game designers (especially ones who already have existing reputations to uphold) mislead their potential backers by claiming that a project is already 'almost done' when they're doing the fundraising. For that matter, I don't get why they would start the kickstarter if the project (The writing part, at least) isn't already done!

2. I absolutely don't get why a game would take so long to be designed, unless you're trying to completely reinvent the wheel.

I honestly don't know how it's like in your part of the world, but lying to potential customers up here in the Northern American continent, we used to call that Fraud and a Scam.  Wonder when people forgot that...

Most game designers don't manage their time very well?

"Almost done" is a red flag. If it's almost done, finish it, then kickstart.

It's not like you need the funds to actually finish it, if you have already invested free time to do more than 75% of the book.

I love Kickstarter, but in the RPG sphere it sometimes feels like a gofundme for mortgage payments.

I know I keep saying this over and over, but if I ever do a Kickstarter, all the writing-parts will be done before I put up the page.
