This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Fantasy Imperium. It has sixteen different hauberks.

I mean, halberds.

Halibutts.

Whatever.

You did have a look at the thumbnail for the Master's Manual right? I swear, that guy looks like the kind of person who hangs around city parks armed with bags of doggy treats.

Millenim´s End is an often overlooked pinnacle of BALBinist creative agenda design.

You can also easily add muskets (and muskrats too, if you wanna do some "Battle of New Orleans" southron exposure) for Age of Enlightenment fun.

Do you mean Millennium's End?

Perhaps ironically, that's on my list of books to survive the coming cull, so it really is Balbinist.

Yeah, of course.
See, I know what you like.

Beware their Ultramodern Firearms Sourcebook, though!

I´m not a gun-bunny per se, but when I read it and compared the entrances for the weapons I have actually  been trained in and trained other people in, I found some rather unpleasant errors.

IIRC, they made a gas-loading rifle out of the H&K G3, which is a blowback operated lock if there ever was one.

Uh-huh.

Well, I was a drill instructor and platoon leader, so there you go.
But I´m not reading gun mags or collect weapons. I just like to know my tools , I have no big interest in guns per se. I´ve met many many people who are way more knowledgable (and fond of) guns than I am.

So I can´t say whether the stuff I don´t know about in the "Ultramodern Firearms" is correct or not. A Gun-Bunny would.

I found the information in "Compendium of Modern Firearms" by R.Talsorian to be more thorough in my areas of expertise. All in all I ´d say it´s the better book, gaming wise, and even holds up nice and well against non-fiction books on personal weapons. It´s a bit dated though.

Joewolz might give us his opinion on source for firearm info.

EDIT: And remembering the technical specs, including whether it´s a gas-loader or roller locked blowback device, is very very easy when you actually dissasembe and re-assemble the lock of a weapon. And you should know that this is done very often. Very often.
Did I say it´s done very often?
So, basically you don´t forget that kinda shit.

Well, I'd quote exactly what Balbinist means, but the thread on TBP is gone...

To actually delve into the higher arts of Balbinist-Play of millennium´s end, you have to frequent the ME mailing list.

I shirked away from that, but you shouldn´t!

"We have updated GNS to reflect a fourth creative agenda, gamism, narrativism, simulationism are now well understood. The fourth is Balbinusism, which essentially means low grade unimaginative play unable to step up and meet any other CA. Balbinist play is play which is simply not as good as gamist, narrativist or simulationist play."
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

Thanks, O Simian Santa! :D

My original idea for this thread was that people would make up Balbinist games, like Turnips and Tolls: The Game of Bringing Root Vegetables To Market or Lex et Ordo: The RPG of Lawyers in the Roman Republic, but folks started suggesting real games instead.
