This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Lynn;676760I don't think its a seriously terrible thing to use analogous terms. On the other hand, I think what a lot of astute, experienced RPG players want is authenticity. Its one of the reasons why Tekumel or Skyrealms of Jorune have so much appeal.

There's also a reason why for a majority of gamers, those settings feel nigh-on unplayable.

With Arrows of Indra, I made a specific choice to be very careful about what terms and names I laid out in plain english, and which I used Indian (Sanskrit) words for.  The main goal was playability.

Quote from: Planet Algol;676770I hear that, BUT I play and DM D&D, I'm not a "Gamer", or a "Nerd", or a "RPG-er", or identify with any sort of fandom, and I think "geek-culture" is kind of sad, folks segregating themselves in some sort of nerd ghetto of self identity.

Agreed very much.

I think you succeeded in doing that. From what Ive read it does have a very authentic feel to it.

I don't accept that either.

While the role-playing game hobby can collect its share of odd-balls, most hobbies do, of one sort or another.

Thank you!

And to Lynn, too, for the other post.
