This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone trying the new Stargate SG-1 RPG with 5e-based rules?
« on: October 21, 2021, 11:37:45 PM »
The new Stargate SG-1 RPG is out and it's based on a heavily modified 5e ruleset. I went ahead and ordered a copy of the main book to see if I like it, and it should be to me soon. Until then, I'm wondering if anyone here has played or run it (perhaps kickstarter backers) or if anyone else has picked it up and started thumbing through it.

I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive and it's something I'm looking forward to.

It uses the 5e chassis but doesn't strictly adhere to it. The 6 classes go up to level 5, then from 6 to 20 the game is classless. The default setting is the Alpha Base that gets established in the middle of Season 6, so much of the setting info is around that base and not the SGC. Playable species include the Tau'ri, Jaffa, Tok'ra, non-earth human offshoots, the Unas, and a new species.

It has a few other rules options that makes it more it's own game and not just a 5e clone.

Another thing I think is cool is you can buy the 3d print files for all the miniatures they are doing for this game, including a Stargate with a DHD.

I'm amazed you can still get the original Stargate SG1 by Alderac on Drivethru. I would have thought their licence would have come to an end (although I note the new game is film-based, whereas the old one is based off the TV series). But no, in answer to your question, I thought about picking it up but haven't yet.

That's not correct.  The new game, just like the old, is based off of the TV series.

In that case, I remain surprised.
