Something more appropriate for lower level characters.

Zombie dragon in WFRP, but it most definitely wasn't meant to be for "lower level characters" (or the WFRP equivalents).

A Young Zombie Dragon.  Too young to become a Dracolich.  Doesn't have to eat, drink, sleep, breathe, etc.  Can't be put to sleep either.

Nah, hydra has more natural attacks so if you have access to a large reptile of your choice its always hydra.

I love hydras!!! Six attacks, breathe fire, regenerate 2 heads when one dies. What's not to love!

For me, the Dracolich is a nigh-demigod in the campaign, not a dungeon monster.

I certainly enjoy Undead Dragons - from giant skeletons, zombie wyrms and I've used ghost dragons and wraith dragons too.

Oh look, we've found an unguarded dragon hoard!!!
Hold up, there's a giant skeleton in there. Probably gonna animate.
[a round of missile weapons and magic missiles destroys the skeleton]
Whee! It's looting time! I'm gonna make snow angels in the gold coins!

The joke of that encounter was they did live!!

The wraith dragon was a nightmare round one and the PCs were in total panic.

...and then the cleric rolled a critical on his Turn Undead.

Poof! Wraith dragon got banished from its own lair!

The PCs had no idea how long that was going to last, or if the wraith dragon was somehow bound to its lair or whether it could hunt them down, so they spent two rounds frantically grabbing whatever looked "most magical" and hauled their scared asses out of the lair, running all through the night to put maximum distance.

So that time, they did get home safely for homemade sugar cookies!!

Yes, I like the random aspect of dice.  The PCs always have a chance, for better or worse.

Yeah, basically it still had the dragon stats but no breath weapon (and only took half damage from slashing weapons)

Once used a blind undead ancient dragon to chase around the players in a horror game. They eventually killed the vampire dragon whelp inside it's mother's body which took down the undead dragon.

I used the set-up of Atlas Game's 'Beyond the Veil' with its undead Black Zombie Ghost Dragon. Converted it to 4E, of course. But that was a 9th level adventure. Does that count?

I never thought there might be so many different dead dragons running around?  How will civilization ever survive their onslaught?
