I have fallen in love with the FATE system. It seems like it would be a hell of a lot of fun to play and pretty easy to prepare for.
I love running Call of Cthulhu as d20, but it still bogs down for some things - notably combat. Also, the task resolution is a bit more random than I'd want.
I'm thinking, since FATE is a pretty generic system, I'd like to give it a spin for eldritch horror at least as a one-shot. The problem is, I'd need to modify it at least a bit... It's lacking several characteristics I see as rather core to CoC... to wit...
(1) Fragile characters. It's really tough in FATE for characters to get killed. I think this should pretty easily be editable.
(2) Sanity. I'll just take a page from CoC d20 and lift the system wholesale from the Chaosium version.
(3) Scary monsters. I don't know how easy it is to replicate this in FATE as of yet, but the monsters in CoC need to be deadly. This is possibly handled by fixing (1), above...
So, thoughts? Am I tilting at windmills?
I really don't like the BRP system much, but I'd be more than happy to stick with the d20 flavor for CoC.
