I recently ran across a copy of this game for $4 on eBay.  I missed the auction, someone bought it out before I could bid on it, but it got me kind of intrigued.

Here's the Noble Knight page on it: http://www.nobleknight.com/ProductDetail.asp_Q_ProductID_E_2147359641_A_InventoryID_E_2147855355_A_ProductLineID_E_1524476730_A_ManufacturerID_E_95_A_CategoryID_E_12_A_GenreID_E_

It's a sci-fi game about exploring hostile planets. And it namechecks the Whole Earth Catalog. It sounds from the blurb like it could be right up my alley, but I don't know anything about it and it seems pretty rare and obscure.

But you're all steeped in old school, so maybe one of you knows a thing or two about it?

When I first read the title for this thread I thought you were referring to Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables", and that this would be an RPG based on 80s action motive tropes and stereotypes.

Not so.

Unimpressed.

I like my imaginary idea better.

That makes the two of us.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Whereas I was trying to figure out why Expendables would need a dedicated RPG.

The game actually in question, however, I have never heard of.

At first I thought I remembered this game, but no, I was thinking of 'Justifiers'.  Sorry.

I don't know anything about it specifically, but checking the usual online sources...

John Kim's darkshire site had this to say:

Expendables 1st ed by L. Lee Cerny, Walter H. Mytczenskyj, Michael A. Thomas (1987) Stellar Games A spacefaring sci-fi RPG, where PC's are explorers hired to find new planets to be exploited by the monolithic company they work for. There is not much background except for extensive equipment lists. Character creation is class-based with random-roll attributes and point-buy skills (assigned a number of dice to different skills). Advancement is level-based. Reviewed in White Wolf #10.

A friend gave me a copy. I recall an adventure in White Wolf magazine (before it was White Wolf only and then exploded into more garbage of "Inphobia") back many many eons ago.

Since I have a copy, need any questions answered? I can't promise it will be quick, but I can flip through it.

For the record: I prefer Justifiers, which has a similar concept.
