This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What's it about?

It's a StarCluster 3 game set in a breathable gas torus in orbit around a neutron star, studded with asteroids covered in plants and animals, and threaded by a gravitational construct - a cylindrical river 20 kilometers across - which loops and coils around inside the torus, and is millions of kilometers long.

What your group actually *does* in this setting is defined by their company, which they construct and define. My current group are actor/thieves in a troupe of traveling players, who put on plays and acts in a fusion powered flying showboat, traveling from settlement to settlement along the river.

Here's an overview: http://iflybynight.blogspot.com/2015/01/overview-of-necklace.html

As a former StarCluster 3 player, I would like to say...

Where the f**k did you come up with those 'human' cultures?

Seriously, everyone is both awesome, completely setting appropriate, yet utterly fascinating to play.

Good job.

Thanks, Lou! :D

My son Klax has the lion's share of credit for the human cultures. He and I both worked on them, trying for exactly what you said, but it's about 75% his work! He was very pleased by your comment! :D

What has been the favorite culture played in playtest?

The only problem I can see right now is the different tech levels of the different cultures.  Of course, you can just have say Carnivales upgraded to Rasi tech pretty easily...

Right! Lots of Carnivales live in Rasi cities, working for Rasi, so for player characters, that's the best solution. NPC Carnivales in their own culture? That's not a problem, that's an opportunity... :D

Lou - missed the first question!

I couldn't say, really. They liked them all, for very different reasons. I will say they loved the Pucks. I have stories.... I have a very wacky crew. :P

The Pucks are such an interesting race I am surprised your son (I am assuming it was your son who created them) did not write a book or short story about them.

Yes, it was Klax who came up with them! I love the fact that their high LUCK is an evolutionary adaptation to their insane level of mischief, and can only be used to get themselves out of the crazy situations they get themselves into. If either of us were any good at writing stories, I would push this idea. :D
