This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A PRC for my Pathfinder game.

War Priest

"So the heretics like fire? Then beat them to within an inch of their lives and burn them the rest of the way."

The War Priest leads his people to glory!

Alignment: War Priests can be of any alignment.

The War Priest adds Intimidate to his list of Cleric Class Skills.

Requirements
A War Priest must have the ability to cast 3rd level Divine Spells.
He must also have two Fighter feats.
He must have 5 ranks in both Diplomacy and Intimidate

Weapon Proficiencies: The War Priest is proficient with all Simple and Martial Weapons and can wear any armor.

Lord of Battle
At level 1, a War Priest can spontaneously trade any first level spell for Enlarge Person.

Damage Reduction
At each odd level, the War Priest gains DR 1/magic.

Aura of Power
At 3rd level, the War Priest becomes immune to magical fear. All allies within 50' gain a +4 moral bonus when resisting fear effects.

Bonus Fighter Feat
At 5th and 7th level, the War Priest gains a bonus Fighter Feat. The War Priest's Cleric and War Priest levels both contribute as Fighter Levels.

Weapon of War
Any object held as a weapon by the War Priest is considered to be +3 Magical and either Keen or Thundering. If the War Priest has an already magical weapon, that weapon gains either Keen or Thundering while in his hands.

God of War
At 10th level, the War Priest is able to spontaneously expend a 3rd level (or higher) spell to increase his size. The priest grows two size categories and gains a +4 to his Strength and Constitution Scores. The priest's weapon also grows proportionately. While the size penalty is -2, there is no additional dexterity penalty.

While in this form, the priest gains an additional 5 points of DR which can only be overcome by a magical weapon or attack.

The priest will remain in his magical form for 10 minutes.

Nice work and all, but, my first thought was: "Isn't the D&D Cleric already a martial priest?"

Needs to be improved. It doesn't have full spellcasting progression, the damage reduction is too low, I can just buy an wand of enlarge person (why am I going to burn something that's actually limited like experience levels for something like this?), bonus fighter fights aren't worth jack, I can just prepare greater magic weapon or I already have an awesome weapon, etc.

Hmm, how is this substantially different than the War Priest in Complete Divine?

Yeah, but semantics about D&D class names are always silly. Like, "why is a fighter better than a warrior?" or, "I thought a wizard was a sorcerer."

I don't know. I only ever bought one or two splat books.

I don't mind weakening the cleric. It is too good of a class by itself and some of my other players are playing weak characters like monks and multiclass fighter / wizards.

Besides, the point of prestige classes is to give you a nifty ability that you enjoy. Practically all of the prestige classes in the DMG and the Pathfinder Core Rule Book create characters that are weaker than they would otherwise be, and substantially weaker than a strait class cleric.

It is better than the Barbarian's.

Hell no, it isn't. n/– > n/magic. Like, massively. Magic weapons are all the rage past some crazily low level in D&D, and therefore in Pathfinder too.

I recommend adapting the Eldritch Knight (also in the core book.) Redo the skill list, replace all instances of "arcane" with "divine", come up with a new 10th level ability, add a good (PrC-style) Will save. Done.

Or give them some little abilities at 3rd and 7th as well, if you're feeling generous. After all, arcane casters are getting more out of the full BAB than a Cleric would.

Oh, and I would suggest making the requirements like so --

Weapon Proficiency: Must be proficient with all martial weapons.

Spells: Able to cast 3rd-level divine spells.

Other: Channel Energy 3d6.

So as to exclude those filthy Druidic hippies and the rest of the riff raff, you understand.

@Cranewings: Why would I in good sense take a prestige class that actually weakens my contribution to the group and offers nothing that I cannot already get or is actually effective? That's my problem with it and, as rezinar said, the damage reduction is NOT better then the barbarian's.

pawsplay

If all you want is "one or two things," use feats. In this case, a few feat that allows spontaneous casting of domain spells, in this case Strength.

Is the barbarian's DR effective against magic weapons? If it is I'll change this one.

However, most of the time that I've seen anyone take a prestige class, it weakened there character. I know a lot of people that loved the Arcane Archer, and they knew it sucked. That's an extreme example, but it is generally true.

Quote from: Cranewings;343762Is the barbarian's DR effective against magic weapons? If it is I'll change this one.

The barbarian's DR is slash-dash, meaning it's good against everything.

And DR 5/- over the course of ten levels is... underwhelming. Especially since you're giving up five levels' worth of spellcasting to get it.

The other problem you're up against here is that the cleric is pretty much hands-down one of the two best classes in d20, alongside the druid. Convincing anyone who knows what they're doing to multiclass out of them into a PrC that doesn't offer full (or almost full) spellcasting progression is probably nigh-impossible (though I'll admit that I'm not all that familiar with PF, but given that it's derived from d20, I don't imagine this has changed all that much).
Mechanics should reflect flavor. Always.
Running: Chrono Break: Dragon Heist + Curse of the Crimson Throne (D&D 5e).
Planning: Rappan Athuk (D&D 5e).
