This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I don't see anything in the press release which would rule out a 2013 release. GenCon/D&DE in August 2013 seems most likely.

Quote from: J Arcane;502225So, you're saying they're lying then? I mean, it wouldn't be the first time, I seem to recall a bit of embarrassment over 4e's announcement, but I just want to be clear.

Gen Con is in August, so the following spring after GC2013 would be 2014, and that's for the public beta, they didn't actually announce a release.

That's at least two years with ever dwindling revenue as more and more 4e players stop buying books for a "dead" edition.  It's dumb as hell, I'll agree, but I do think they may just be dumb enough.

I missed the gencon part of the announcement. In that case I don't think they are lying but I don't know how they can expect to drive sales of new 4e releases when they've basically announced the new edition two years ahead of time. It also gives paizo plenty of time to plan ahead for it's release.

It is both hilarious and well-deserved after a month or so of mocking people for saying 5e was coming.

I currently don't care about D&D it's long off my radar.  But I hope they pull it off.  It'd be a good thing in general of D&D gets revitalized as an edition people generally can back and help drive the RPG market again.

I will definitely give 5e a shot and hope to participate in the play tests. Mearls seems to understand where the fractures in the base are and it sounds like they aren't taking this lightly. I do think they have an enormous challenge ahead of them, but if they make a stellar game I will be onboard for sure.
