This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

You are still pretending to be an elf and you explore dungeons and kill stuff and use skills and .... what part of any of that is NOT DnD?

Warhammer is also about going around dungeons pretending to be an elf and killing shit and using skills, and yet it's not DnD.

To go on with the point - except that now, as DD put it, the dungeons are full of soap bubbles guarding tanks, your skills aren't that great if they don't concern killing stuff, and elves now can teleport around because.

And that's commentary coming from just my 3e experience.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

No.

4e is "fantasy RPG".  It's "Fantasy RPG" in some D&D drag.  But it wasn't D&D.

and that's all I'm going to discuss about it.

It'd be replaying the battles of the past. It doesn't matter now what 4e was or was not for this or that fan. 4e was a failure for a sizeable portion of DnD fans. That's it. End of story. Move on. Help ensure this doesn't happen for whatever comes next.

For a lot of gamers it just didn't taste like D&D, whether because of the class powers, the lack of a robust spell list, not enough flavor text, healing surges, a sense that the mechanics were too gamist, etc. Whether these things actually made it less D&D is a matter of preference and up for debate. But there is no denying that for many the perception was 4e didn't feel enough like D&D. No amount of flamewar is going to change that (nor will it sway 4e fans to come back to 3e). WOTC is just recognizing the reality of the market: they have to please everyone and re-unite the base or lose out financially.
