This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Omega;727804Forget which one had Half-Ogres...

OH!  I think that was the Irda in Dragonlance.  AKA: the race all min/maxers wanted to play

*Edit*  Nevermind.  they were just "original Ogres".  I misremembered
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Quote from: Omega;727806He certainly does in the only "Elmisnter" novel I have.

The point being that "deus ex machina" NPCs are only an issue if the GM brings them in.

Or, many DMs are better dramatists than the writers of Forgotten Realms novels.

But we knew this.

-My own opinion is enough for me, and I claim the right to have it defended against any consensus, any majority, anywhere, any place, any time. And anyone who disagrees with this can pick a number, get in line and kiss my ass.

-Be very very careful with any argument that calls for hurting specific people right now in order to theoretically help abstract people later.

Quote from: Arminius;725461Well, I had a little time and I think the idea traces back to Tymn, Zahorski, and Boyer, in a book and maybe an earlier article from the '70s.

+1. I have the sources and hope to provide more color in the next week or so.
