While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). 4E Races?

King of Old School

Well, except that Tieflings as a core race have already been confirmed...

Quote from: RPGPunditI noticed that, and that they appear to continue being the stupid "tiny sized adult human" instead of the more traditional Hobbit-like appearance.  Why??

Maybe I'm in a minority here, but I'd love to see all the races stay, and more added. We use half-orcs a lot, but I wouldn't object to some sort of feat or what not as B. Walker suggested.

Of course unless 4E is really something special we won't be picking up until I can snag copies for less than half cover price. (All of my 3.5 books have cost me less than twenty bucks a pop, including shipping.) Not because I hate it or what not, I'm just cheap and what we have works real good for now. When we stop having fun we'll snag something else.

Blackleaf

Tiefling is in.  Changelings (from Eberron) are probably in too.  (WotC 4e Q+A)

EDIT:

I think it was half-orc because Tolkien style orcs couldn't really function in daylight (and were eeeevil).  Of course -1 in sunlight didn't really reflect that in game terms, but I think that's the original idea.

Buh bye and good riddance to Gnomes and Half-Orcs.

Gnomes the absolute worst race - they're not quite dwarves, they're not quite halflings, they're not quite anything at all. Half-Orcs... I don't mind them so much, but I don't see players picking them too often (they're just not that evocative, in my mind).

According to what's been posted so far it looks like using a large selection of races from the MM will be made simpler.  I don't see Orcs in the PH, but I can quite easily envision them with the PH + MM combo.

I'm guessing that Tiefling won't be a race... I'm hoping it'll be "planetouched" or somesuch, with Tieflings being a sub-type.  Probably wrong on this but whatever.

I'd love to see the Changeling. It's perfect for the core game.

getting rid of that penalty & making orcs a player race is a fine idea.

not a fan of changelings, but that could be my prejudice of the standard doppelganger showing through, too.  how are changelings any different?

I feel the same way, but the fact of the matter is that something is gonna get dropped, and we really can't do anything about it at the moment. Well, maybe, but I don't see a groundswell of support coming about for the half-orc. Personally, I'd like to see the goliath make it in as the core rules heavy-hitter race, but I'm pretty sure that won't happen.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

i'd be all for gaining the goliath as a new core race.  but i think that's the smidge of earthdawn fan in me talking.  of all the "new" (races of. . . ) ones out there, i liked the big G the best.

Same here. That's why I may keep Races of Stone when I purge my 3e books.

I love to play Half-Orcs to be honest.
Not accepted by Humans or Orcs is a good role-playing hook.
Both Humans and Orcs most likely treat them as outcasts and misfits to outright biggotish behavior with disgust about the Half-breeds.

I would like a Warforged Race added myself or a good varient of them.

WHO or WHAT is this "Goliath" Race ??
Tell me more please ;)

Goliaths are a race related to giants. They are give the size of medium, but can use large-size weapons. They live in mountains, and are very adept at bounding around from crag to crag. The illustrations for them makes them appear similar to stone giants.

Warthur

My guess as to the thinking behind removing half-orcs: they're mildly redundant if you throw tieflings in there. Half-orcs are the spawn of mankind and brutal, bestial evil. Tieflings are the spawn of mankind and - depending on the demonic parentage - either brutal, bestial evil or abstract, metaphysical evil. I suspect tieflings could end up having all sorts of cool options based on what kind of demon spawned them.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.
