This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Why not? I try to have a point and not be a mindless troll. I'm here to discuss points, not mindlessly piss people off. I don't say things in bad faith.

Quote from: GnomeWorks;329749Can anyone explain to me why, exactly, the AP model is so successful?

I was thinking about this the other day, and it strikes me as rather railroad-y.

I won't claim a direct link, but it seems that the extent by which people damn railroads of forums belies how many players seem to crave a bit of a railroad in play.

That said, I think that APs as currently published (even more so, the 1-20 APs that used to be published) are too long, and rarely play through their whole length.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Some people could be buying the Pathfinder APs, for similar reasons that they picked up Dungeon Magazine.  (Albeit more expensive).

Oh, like that distinguishes him from Fiasco and B.T. /so much/. Come on, now.

The difference is that you're assuming this is the motivation of Fiasco and B.T., with neither one of them stating so, while TCO actually did state his own motivation right here, on this thread, all on his own.

Quote from: thecasualoblivion;330631I like arguing with people. I don't really care about winning the argument, and I don't really care which argument. I've argued with people over what Transformers line is superior, which American Idol contestant sucks, whether or not overfocusing on tournament play was ruining M:tG for those who played casually, I argued with people over whether the Fighter sucked and spellcasting was too powerful in 3E ect.  Posting on message boards without an argument is boring. I say I don't have an agenda, because I'm not here to promote one, I'm just here to join in the argument. I don't have a goal beyond that. If I were to win the argument and the argument would end, my reason for existence would end as well.

In the RPG world right now, 4E is the center of the storm. I'm here for the storm, not for 4E.

Let nobody say I'm not an honest troublemaker.

It's nice to know that one's immune from your withering critique as long as one never actually come out and says one's a troll. ;)

Oh: I like LFR because a) I wind up gaming with people who I'd never meet otherwise. Sometimes they're jerks, sometimes not. But I like meeting new people. b) No-committment gaming is pretty relaxing; I can always not show up for LFR one week and not feel like I'm killing the night for everyone else. c) I get my assumptions challenged every week. If I hadn't played a lot of LFR I'd be one of those guys who thinks you're crippled with a 16 in your main stat. I'd also think that a two leader/no defender group would be doomed. Live and learn. d) Related to (c), I understand the game a ton better, because I've seen so many variations on 4e play, and understanding is deeply satisfying to me. e) I've become a better GM because I'm not always running for people who know me and take the same shortcuts as I do; I'm much better at engaging people I've just met now. f) Moved to a new city? Find a new gaming group in half an hour, and anyone you really like you can invite into your home game. None of that thing where you play with someone twice and then awkwardly kick him out of the group. g) "Yeah, I hadn't played for ten years, but it's so easy to do this I thought I'd give it a try." Heard that three times in the last year, and I like it every time I hear it. h) I know how to write one-shots now. I used to be so crap at it; I couldn't write an adventure you'd finish in one night if my life depended on it. This may say more about me than about LFR, but either way it's a new skill for me.

I don't like the jerks. I don't like the formulaic nature of many of the adventures. I am really tired of playing and/or running CORM 1-1. The way magic items work totally screws with my suspension of disbelief. I will rarely get a long-term plot out of LFR unless I make it up myself. I prefer a solid home campaign.

But really, it's enriched my gaming life over the last year, which surprised me a lot. I think I've got a pretty good handle on why, though.

You are posting in a troll thread.

Nice strawman. That's not what I actually said, dipshit.
What I said is:
In one case (Fiasco and BT) YOU attribute motivations to them they have not themselves stated.
In the other case, TCO HIMSELF stated what his motivations were.

Nice try.  Obv  you don't like hearing what I have to say but its not just for the sake of arguign.  I just can't let some of the more ridiculous 4E claims go, is all.

I am grateful for TCO, however.  Thanks to his admission I won't bother arguing with him anymore.  Waste of time.

Bwahahahhahahaha!
