This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[4e] And now, let's introduce the splats...

Quote from: jeff37923;299347You'd have to ask Abyssal Maw. He's the one who first uttered the declaration.

Of course, he seems to be getting a bit irritable that his own statements are coming home to haunt him...  :D

The declaration in the quote being an answered to my jab at "doesn't that mean we're not playing rpgs at all?", I refer you to post #13 of this very thread, for one thing. Basically, AM keeps claiming that people who do not like 4e on this board are griefers who do not enjoy playing RPGs and people who in fact do not play RPGs at all.

It's not the first time he's posted it.

See also here, there also. I'm sure these aren't the only ones, and I'm not going to bother searching further to be honest. It's just a fact that he keeps saying that people who don't like 4e don't enjoy gaming and/or don't game themselves.

I asked Mearls about the frequently updated core books (not these mini-splats specifically) and he said the idea was similar to the material they used to put out in early 80s Dragon Magazine (eg. new Races, Characters, etc).

Quote from: jeff37923;299351I don't think that the splats will actually help 4E be either more popular or more financially successful than it already is. That said, the size and price range of these splatbooks seems to be pretty good because $9.99 for 32 pages seems to be pretty reasonable.

Oooh...see, I don't do D&D4, but I can respect that.  That's one of the things I loved about Midnight...all the reasonably priced "minisupplements".

Not everything has to be full color, hardcover OMFG shiny, IMHO.

Quote from: jeff37923;299376Compared to a comic book, you're right. That is kinda high. However, as the cover price for a comparable RPG adventure module, it is a little low. RPG book pricing is its own unique realm.

Of course, SW:EX is 9.99. But that's just because Pinnacle is generally more awesome than most companies.

Also, 4E threads invariably descend into flaming anarchy, no matter the topic.

Personally, I find it amusing that AM uses all of these generalizations and blanket terms about the posters here (amusing because I really can't be bothered to actually care what random joes on the interwebz think). Does he even post in non-4E threads?

I only talk about stuff I'm actually involved in or know something about. It's  a pretty solid policy.

I stand by every single word in all those linked posts. I really and truly do think most of the guys who are specifically obsessed with spoiling 4e threads are griefers with not much else to do. I also really do see the abandonment of this place is in process. I don't know who else sees it, but it's pretty obvious.

Also I should probably point out, I didn't say those (horrible, mean and hurtful!) things because I wanted to get back at you. I said them because they are true.

Quote from: Abyssal Maw;283992To understand the bitterness and hatred here, you have to understand the mental process it comes from. My personal belief (and I apologize but I really do believe this) is that a lot of you guys realize you stopped having fun with this hobby a long time ago. Right now there's a lot of clinging to the artifacts of yesteryear.
"Meh."

My answer would then be:

Quote from: James J Skach;283994Well, than, we must part ways. I don't call you a fad-happy tragically hip silly old fool chasing the latest fashion because you play 4e which, in reality, is about as far from an RPG you can get and still have the name D&D on the cover, do I?

But for you, the moment I object to the feel of the game and how "magical" to me goes out the window when some fool fighter next to me is doing some weird ass power with nary but the most tenuous hint of a faint shadow of a connection to reality while I have to roll to hit with my Magic Missile (all in the name of game balance and ensuring everyone has a equal chance to shine!!!), I'm some bitter non-gamer, or about to be, who really isn't interested in gaming any more.

Never mind that I've got my wife...my god damn couldn't be less interested in playing wife...to agree to play, gave my kids Monster Manuals (thanks Kraka!) for their birthdays and play with them (not nearly as often as they'd like!), play every Wednesday night, will be running a 1e game for the boys in the group come mid-March, am trying to create Dunfalcon, and as of last week thought of a product that might be cool and started development on - nah, I'm just a fool who doesn't know he's not into this anymore, right?

We'll always have Raven's Hollow...

From there. Christ almighty, AM. At least recycle your tired routines every once in a while.

It's a very qualified statement. In other words "I believe a lot of you guys have quit" means it only applies to people who have quit.  I certainly didn't say "all", and people who are still gaming have absolutely no reason to be offended. Otherwise... why be offended? you self identified as the offended party, ergo you are that guy.

I really do feel sorry for you.

I am not recycling anything. I hold a position, and I simply stand by it. Every single bit of experience and data I have and can see and experience, including the weekly events I take part in, support my position, so I will probably continue to hold it.

By contrast, you are now literally digging through old threads, looking for quotes that never took place and recycling an argument that was already lost 6 months ago; you are being offended by a situation that you have simply no power over. Watching some of you guys pretend to have an intellectual conversation about this is a bit like watching chimpanzees put on hats. It's entertaining, but it's fairly obvious you have no fucking clue what you are really talking about.

I call bullshit on you.

Remember?

Look. I'm not "looking for quotes that never took place". You said it yourself: "I stand by every single word in all those linked posts." You wrote that about... six posts above. These posts took place, you agree with them, and now you're trying to pedal your way out of an unsustainable argument.

I'm going to put it mildly and just say that you're not showing any shred of logic in your argumentation. You're the one rambling on and on repeating the same stuff over and over again to try to get a rise out of people. Between you and I, I think I'm not the one who's a griefer with way too much time on his hands here.
