This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Is there any information on how licensing is working yet??

They seem to be focussing in the initial core releases, before anything else. But they have just announced a second Adventure Path due in March 2015 that is to be written by a 3rd PP (Sasquatch games), though published by WotC, much like Kobold Press did for Tyranny of Dragons.

same as above.  2015
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Well, Goodman Games is announcing 5e modules. I'm just... curious whether 3pp are just hoping for the best, or have some insider info, or what.
This forum is great in that the moderators aren\'t jack-booted fascists.

Unfortunately, this forum is filled with total a-holes, including a bunch of rape culture enabling dillholes.

So embracing the \'no X is better than bad X,\' I\'m out of here. If you need to find me I\'m sure you can.

Or at least great enthusiasm for the hope of cashing in on the inevitable early sales spike.

Well, I have a scifi project that has bounced around several systems, but isn't strongly tied to any.

Right now it's a DungeonWorld mod, which is, well, D&Dish already. And I've always wanted to do scifi D&D anyway.

And having 100x as many people go 'eh, sure, I'll give this a look'...

Not just announcing, two of them are already up on RPGNow, as well as products from a couple other companies

Apparently they are just using the OGL and hoping that protects them from lawyers....

... Huh. Well, I'll definitely be watching what happens closely. ;)

Frog God Games is in on 3PP too: http://froggodgames.com/5th-edition

I am guessing the basis is that you can't copyright mechanics, and most flavour/story/setting material is either so generic or created by the 3PP so as not to cause an issue.

The same happened with 3e and 4e IIRC, and arguably the whole OSR movement is based on the concept.

especially since anyone who reads the OGL can clearly see they are in violation of it.  Specific note should be made as to the definitions of product identity are.  Another mistake nearly everyone makes is that according to the licence, you're required to detail out everything you're copying from the contributor.

people should be glad wotc doesn't bother pushing C&Ds

I can half imagine WotC not making any OGL announcement for a while, especially given its previous troubles in that regard. In the meantime, it benefits from 3PP efforts when its releases are just building up whilst reserving the ability to take action at a later point.
