This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RPGPundit;1059716Experience, in the two occasions this has happened, tends to prove you wrong here.  Whenever D&D has been 'dethroned', the hobby itself has hit low points, only to experience significant revivals when D&D is given a new start and regains first place.
The hobby is not necessarily improved by having more people in it.

When it comes to anything non-OSR-ish, yes. He's remarkably close-minded at times for such an intelligent person. I guess we all have such moments.
Playing: With myself.
Running: Away from bees.

False fact.

More players = more recognition. More recognition = bigger share in the hobby industry. More industry share = more money to write and design games. This is how you dethrone Paizo and WotC.

Stop gatekeeping the hobby from the greater community.

My favorite RPG material tends to be written by people who do RPGs on the side of their main job.

So no, more money for full time writers isn't necessarily the answer. For example, in Starfinder, instead of having weapon/armor creation rules they sell you whole extra books devoted to further fleshing out examples that come from the same basic formula. Fulltimers need money so they write/commission more books and make systems that are enhanced by tons of books.

Also, lol at your bold nonsense. There is no gate keeping in pointing out that people who don't play the games you do, do not necessarily make the industry any better for you.

If 3 billion people were playing FATE, how would that improve the RPGs you play?

True.

See football/soccer for example: the most popular sports on the planet, yet the worse set of rules know to men, prone to all sorts of swindling and unsportsmanlike behavior and maneuver.
