This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A couple of times I tried to play a character who could easily walk a straight line. In neither case was the officer impressed.

So very true. Same with my buddy. He can't  walk more than a few feet without his crutches. Every character he makes in every system does not replicate his disability.

I usually create characters that are hearing impaired. Why? Because thats all I've ever known. I just do not feel comfortable playing an ability I've never experienced. Whereas as the DM its totally different. I know others who do the same.

On the flip side I've never played a character who struggles to walk a straight line.  8)

I can understand your point since you have never known what sounds and hearing is like. For my friend however, his experience is progressive and while he's always had limitations those limitations are becoming worse as he gets older and his condition progresses. In my own case I have some disabilities from military service and I too know what it's like to be "normal" and more functional than I am currently. I would never even consider milking my limitations for clout and profit when I know that there are far worse off people than I am. I could never feel right speaking for my buddies with missing limbs and disfigurements and taking away their voices and experiences let alone touting myself as an expert on being disabled simply because she says she is without any diagnosis beyond webmd to back her up. What she's doing absolutely disgusts me at a visceral level.

What she is doing is an especially evil form of Stolen Valor.

I couldn't agree more. And yet people are idolize her and she's profiling off of it. Mind you these are the same people that believe all women except when those women accuse the wrong person, support mostly peaceful, yet firey, destructive, violent, and death filled protests while condemning non violent actual peaceful political rallies as dangerous. Clown world is not just a meme.
