This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Peregrin;453279I've done the Xboxes + Two TVs for the split-screen play, and it's hella fun.

yeah.  I like the people in my group and with it so difficult because of schedules to find time together to play a rpg this would be a good way to hang out and talk and social

I tend not to use the MIC, even though a headset came with my XBox. Dont need to chat, but I do enjoy the "chatter" of other players...the stories I could tell...

How do you communicate with your team, then?

All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

I type when I need to chat. A simple "yo" is enough to let folks know I'm in trouble.

L4D uses MANY sound cues; a human team that's talking is at a huge disadvantage. Other than "1, 2, 3, GO!", there's nothing that should be said outside of the safe house.

The monsters have a bit more leeway, but, here individuals also have more downtime, making typing quite easy...past "1, 2, 3, GO!" to synchronize an attack, there really shouldn't be much to say that needs to be said immediately.

A nice education blog.

Mmm, I disagree.  I think you can "riff" off of other players like you can in any game, but formulating or modifying strategies mid-level has improved my play immensely.  This was one of the advantages of playing with split-screen with everyone in the same room.

It's also pretty easy to adjust the mic volume so people don't overwhelm the in-game audio (and it's gotten better since Valve has updated their audio-in codec.)

Well there are two postive things going on.  It looks like some of the members of my group will be playing Left for Dead 2 online and it looks like we may be able to get a once a month tabletop game going.

Things are looking up

Man I totally forgot about this thread.

Yeah, I'm not buying an xbox.  Dpad/yoke/whatever-you-call-it controllers and FPSs don't work for me.  Mouse & Keyboard 4 life yo.
