This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

a friend of mine lent me his copy of dawn of war.  i can only play it on "safe" mode, to give you an idea of my computer's capabilities.  i'd love to play a warhammer fantasy RTS.  there's mark of chaos, but there's no way in hell my comp can run it.  are there any older titles out there that are any good?

J Arcane

Dark Omen was really cool, but really only for multiplayer.

The single player campaign is stupid hard, and basically just cheats like crazy by forcing you into virtually unsurvivable scenarios.
Bedroom Wall Press - Games that make you feel like a kid again.

Arcana Rising - An Urban Fantasy Roleplaying Game, powered by Hulks and Horrors.
Hulks and Horrors - A Sci-Fi Roleplaying game of Exploration and Dungeon Adventure
Heaven\'s Shadow - A Roleplaying Game of Faith and Assassination

Well the system requirements for Mark of Chaos are a lot higher than the ones for Dawn of War.
These are two good old(from 1998) WH40k games:
Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000
Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate

Chaos Gate is awesome and I wish they would have done more with the engine.

I vaguely recall a game called 'Shadow of the Horned Rat' that was a WHFB computer game from years ago.  I think it got pretty good reviews at the time.

ehhh. Shadow of the Horned Rat was ok, but it had a ridiculous margin of error, IMO. To succeed in the single player game, you had to be perfect in pretty much every scenario, so you could preserve your forces. If you took too many losses in a unit you were at a usually big disadvantage in the next level, and if you actually lost the unit, you might as well start over.
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.
