KCD is easily the best crpg I've ever played. It is super hard at first, but once you figure out how to do things you get a real sense of accomplishment. If you haven't gotten the dlc's, I highly recommend doing so. They add a lot to the game. The Woman's Lot dlc in particular is amazing.
I agree it is a good game, and the research put into everything is just... just wow.
Not really a true RPG, though, and definitely not a
cRPG (which is games like Fallout 1+2, BG, Goldbox games, Age Of Decadence, etc.).
Most of the game is entirely based on player skill instead of character skill, making it more of an action game. Though there definitely is some RPG mixed in, no doubt.
Also not a full simultion, since afaik, nothing in the game except the combat is actually simulated based on a realistic model.
Still, everything is so well researched and realistically implemented that it just manages an immersion level that it might as well be a simulation...
Sorry, I'm a stickler for genre definitions when it comes to video games
The only thing I really didn't like about KCD is the main character. You basically just play a village yokel with all his... "charm". Couldn't stand the idiot, and despite all that you pull off with him, he never really changes his simpleton attitude, it's a character that I cannot identify with in any way.
Hopefully, he'll be acting a bit more like - hmm, that goes into spoiler territory, so I won't - in the sequel.
