This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Been playing the hell out of Conan Exiles here lately. If you're in to the whole survival/builder mmo thing then it's worth checking out. If you want someone to play with hit me up.

Tharsis: About an ill-fated mission to Mars and the crews attempts to just survive the remaining weeks to arrival as things go wrong, sometimes lots of things.
An indie game thats pretty off the beaten track as its a dice roller "express" game. Roll the dice to apply to problems, press your luck to try and get a better roll. And the allotment of dice to each crew will diminish as used.
You select from a roster of crew with different perks like you can apply a roll of 5 or better to repairing the ships hull one point. Or a roll of 5 or better could be used to give all crew in the section +1 dice.
Another quirk is that the crew can accumulate stress that can, and oh so very much will, cause them to make very poor suggestions during periodic meetings. And while I am not positive. I am pretty darn sure that higher stress causes your rolls to start skewing to bad results.
The other surprise is that its a rather strategic game and you really do have to plan and think things through to mitigate disasters.

After alot of effort and getting a handle on the system I actually beat it on Hard difficulty and got the good ending. Well as good as the ending gets... ahem.

I picked this up, and Jesus, things escalate fast. The target numbers seem incredibly high, and there seems to be little to no time to regain dice pools. I may need to consult some guides.

Playing Avernum - old school RPG, pretty fun so far. Graphics are simplistic.

Just finished Atom RPG which is Fallout (isometric) from a Russian perspective. Had a lot of fun and ordered the sequel (which is not yet done).

I've started to play Thief again.

Thief Gold with the TFix 1.27 patch, to be precise - to make it play nice on modern hardware.

What a blast, really. How much you can achieve with just good lighting, good mechanics and good level design is still amazing 20+ years later.

Just started to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I must admit that it was quite a surprise for me to see that it's a very cool game actually.

It's a great medieval simulation game: It takes place in Bohemia after the death of Charles IV and you are playing as a blacksmith's boy – Henry of Skalitz. You are simply trying to survive in a dark war atmosphere. The only problem is it's crawling with bugs and glitches but still, it doesn't spoil the awesome story.

It's both fun and entertaining for me: I wasn't expecting to learn so much about Medieval history and the European culture. Thanks to my Montenegrin passport I have traveled to the Czech Republic multiple times in the past but I must say that the game taught me more about the Bohemian history than my travels. If you are a sucker for medieval simulations for me you should definitely play this game.

KCD is easily the best crpg I've ever played.  It is super hard at first, but once you figure out how to do things you get a real sense of accomplishment.  If you haven't gotten the dlc's, I highly recommend doing so.  They add a lot to the game.  The Woman's Lot dlc in particular is amazing.

I agree it is a good game, and the research put into everything is just... just wow.

Not really a true RPG, though, and definitely not a cRPG (which is games like Fallout 1+2, BG, Goldbox games, Age Of Decadence, etc.).
Most of the game is entirely based on player skill instead of character skill, making it more of an action game. Though there definitely is some RPG mixed in, no doubt.

Also not a full simultion, since afaik, nothing in the game except the combat is actually simulated based on a realistic model.
Still, everything is so well researched and realistically implemented that it just manages an immersion level that it might as well be a simulation...

Sorry, I'm a stickler for genre definitions when it comes to video games :)

The only thing I really didn't like about KCD is the main character. You basically just play a village yokel with all his... "charm". Couldn't stand the idiot, and despite all that you pull off with him, he never really changes his simpleton attitude, it's a character that I cannot identify with in any way.
Hopefully, he'll be acting a bit more like - hmm, that goes into spoiler territory, so I won't - in the sequel.

Is there one that makes the combat system less agonizing? I'm all for making combat a little more complex than Skyrim, but dear God, I felt like I was trying to play Street Fighter -- the original -- while wearing boxing gloves.

Did you try to pull off combos?
Those are completely useless, absurdly hard to pull off and you can forget about them.
Just use the normal blocks & parrying and you will be good for the entire game.

Heck, I couldn't figure out how to get out of -clinches-.

It's a shame too because the game is gorgeous and well done.

My wife convinced me and my friends to go back to Everquest... classic... on Project 1999.

The nostalgia bomb is both fierce and BRUTAL. And we're loving it.

Sorry Homecoming... I'll be back later. Much later as it appears.

I have been playing Warframe since four years. Its free and thats the main draw. After doing every mission in the game for hundreds of times, slowly growing to hate the developers shenanigans and beeing increasingly aware its time to move on i feel it hard to let go. The investment of hours makes this hard, the more one spends the more one values the item. Then again when some games come out im dropping this game like hotcackes and going for Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster with actual hype for the next Mass Effect game. I just dread another Andromeda.

I have been trying out the beta for Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars. It is a strategy game with a RISK-style map, with turn-based combat and card-based mechanics. It is set in the fantasy world of "Nemire," which is inhabited by vampires and some countries are ruled by vampires. Like certain other vampire games, e.g. Warhammer Fantasy, Nosgoth, Bloodlust: Shadowhunter, it has bloodlines/clans as its factions. The three sides at release are the Dracul, warrior rulers, the Moroia, socialite witches, and the Nosfernus, chiropteran necromancers. Though I'm sure that DLC may very add more.

The mechanics are fine, though I found the interface a bit clunky in places. The campaign has special rules different from the skirmish/multiplayer rules, presumably in order to tell a linear story. The last time I remember playing a RISK-style map with a campaign was Lords of Magic: Legends of Urak, so I don't know how prevalent campaigns are in strategy games like this.

The story is light and easy to understand, and it's not riddled with internal contradictions like some game stories I could name, but I get the impression that there's tons of lore beneath the surface that isn't explained anywhere. There's no in-game codex to explain the jargon and history of Nemire.

Overall it's a solid game and I'm optimistic about future developments.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered Crusader Kings 3 Royal Edition. I'm way too much of a fan boy of Paradox to not get it. I've gotten hundreds of hours out of CK2 and Stellaris. I bring this all up because I will be playing CK3 on September 1st. Deus Vult Ladies and Gents, Deus Vult.
Playing: Nothing sadly
Running: Tales of Gor, FKR Star Wars, Vampire 4th edition

I love a lot of their games, like Stellaris and Europa Universalis, but could not get into Crusader Kings 2. I did download Wasteland 3 and did not start yet.
