Have I told you how fucking awesome Shados of Mordor is? Because it is indeed fucking awesome, like in oh-shit-I-need-to-run-a-Middle-Earth-game-right-now way.

Also, revisiting Max Payne and Max Payne 2. Graphics are ugly as fuck, and dated, but the story is still great and the action is fun.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Playing Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

on sale on Steam at the moment. Fun hack and slasher multiplayer with limbs flying in every direction and blood squirting all over the place. Maps are good though vary from great (Belmez, a castle siege with catapults, boiling oil etc) to boring (a couple of them where every step is a grind and you need to run some distance to get back to the battle whereas your opponents can mass up as they wait for you).

Also playing XCom but on Normal level, which feels like I'm cheating as it's too easy. Classic is too hard (or at least unfair). Succeed in every mission and still lose countries, plus enemies with autoflank and instacrit piss you off.

Fancy Crusader Kings II but it's nigh on impenetrable to newcomers. Also fall back on Knights of Honor and Anno games (1404 plus others) when I want to lose hours of my life.

um...

I'm playing MegaMek using MekHQ. It's a java based Battletech simulator.

That's funny, I just started up an XCom game. I also picked regular (but IronMan), for the same reasons. One notch up on the difficulty, and you go from typical hits being 4 points to typical hits being 12 point criticals that blast pieces of your guys across the battlefield.

Not tried Impossible but after putting hours into (and being frustrated by) Classic I think it'd be an exercise in rage quitting/uninstalling, and I don't want that because I like the game. Also want to try 'Long War' mod and have Enemy Within to try out at some point which introduces mechs and others stuff I gather.

I used to own the boardgame, does this recreate it faithfully?

APN, in my experience it is a darned good simulation of the Battletech board game.  My co-workers and I did lunchtime matches a few months ago and had a blast.  It covered all the bases, like melee attacks, death from above, etc as well as accounting for all the bookkeeping.  It's free, try it out!

Shipyard Locked

Playing old PC games from the bottom of my brother's desk drawer to save money.

Popped in Tiberian Sun,  surprised and delighted to find James Earl Jones embarrassing himself in some wonderfully cheezy 1999 era cinematics.

Imperator

After playing Max Payne and Max Payne 2, I'm starting Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing from Steam (it looks like a Gothic Diablo) and Last Door (lovecraftian point & click adventure) from GOG. We'll see.

Last Door is the first adventure game I felt that truly captured Gothic horror's spirit.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Van Helsing is nice. Not wonderful, it's low-budget and it shows, but it's certainly worth a playthrough if you like Diablo-likes.

Titans of Steel is my go-to big robot fighting game. It's also Battletech-with-the-serial-numbers filed off, but it has darn near everything: mechs you can design from the ground up, pilots that go up levels and develop (along with "races" like clone, cyborg, android), engines that go nova, sometimes triggering more novas. Battles can take place on Earthlike planets, as well a frigid, lava, and "acid" planets...really, just too much there.

And, it's free too.

Oh yeah, you gotta do Enemy Within, it's a must-have expansion. You don't exactly have mechs, just big guys in cyber-suits (and you really can't have more than 2 in the group, with 1 being more feasible by far), and you also get genetic mods and some other stuff.

"Long War" isn't satisfying, the pacing just isn't that good.

Iron Man is totally the way to go.

It's pretty much exactly like the original game, with the benefit of games being about 400x faster to play because line of sight, range, and modifiers all being computed for you. You can use mechs, vehicles (including VTOLs), infantry, off board artillery, etc. You can easily customize it for different tech levels and eras of play. Aerospace fighters are included, but I've never used them, so I'm not sure how they work.

You can play against a decent bot controlled player, or against other people on various servers. Maps range from original maps from the tabletop game to ones you create yourself. Units include every canon unit from the tabletop (ie: hundreds of different units), non-canon units, and all can be customized using the Battletech build rules.

I recently reinstalled Freelancer and modded it to fit widescreen.
I've completed this game a few times and modded it in various ways.
sometimes I set up a Multiplayer server and play around with mods with friends.
This time, I've set up a Vanilla server and Playing multiplayer with my son.
I also put some HD textures packs in so it looks pretty good and has agesd quite well really.

Freelancer is certainly more fun than Elite Dangerous which I try out every patch or so, but so far it's really boring.

I also play Minecraft with my daughter on a local multiplayer server.
All good fun, you can't go wrong with Minecraft.
