Still playing No Man's Sky, coming up on the 40 hour mark.

I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of the game, and it's been enjoyable. If all you want is to jump in your starfighter and fly around exploring weird planets, this will certainly scratch that itch.

The major con so far is that not all of the systems in the game mesh together well. You can wind up in the position of owning a star fleet, and still having to stomp around mining basic resources and dumpster diving for artifacts in order to build everyday stuff. It seems like at some point you should transcend the basic grocery-getting of the universe and move on to bigger things, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

Or maybe I just haven't stumbled onto the right plot thread. There are some storylines I don't care about, and have neglected.

Anyway, I recommend the game, it is a good value for the money, but it probably won't make it into my all-time favorites list.

The need to drop down to a planet and do some mining never 100% goes away, but there are lots of items that can be unlocked for bases that will autocollect various items for you. Unfortunately, unlocking all the base object that collect resources requires you go down to planets and mine for resources.

I'd really love to see a No Man's Sky 2, where they take the feature salad that is the first game, and streamline everything so that it works together better and has quality of life improvements.

For instance, there are at least three different systems for building bases: building wall sections, building complete modules, and building with cuboids. None of them really integrate well with the others, and cuboids are kind of a buggy mess.
