This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Nethack. I always  come back to it. @

Nethack's classic appeal is hard to resist. It's like a journey through a pixelated labyrinth of adventure and surprises that never gets old. I've had my share of epic battles with powerful monsters and those unexpected moments that keep me coming back for more.

Cathode Ray

Baby Pac-Man for Atari 7800, and the newly released modern rehashes of Shark! Shark! and Astrosmash.

All of the Nethack games and their varying children -- Moria, Angband, etc -- are great for whiling away time.

Haven't really played any games in a few weeks, been trying to play some Starfield but I don't have enough time.  I wasn't over-hyped for Starfield so I kinda just have been enjoying it for what it is instead of believing it would be something greater.    I will say that I am waiting for the mod tools so I can throw a bunch of star trek based stuff into the game, I've already got my phaser models ready to import.

Wrath of God

Football Manager 2015.

Deus Ex.

We. The Revolution.

First one is specific. Second is classic. Third I recommend - especially since of views dominating here - it's this weird strategy about being corrupt drunkard judge during French Revolutions (well much compressed version of French Revolution) and making trials trying to maintain own life in face of public wrath, keep falling family together and survive intrigues among revolutionaries.
"Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon."

"And I will strike down upon thee
With great vengeance and furious anger"

As for Counter-Strike, it's been a blast. I've been mainly rocking the AWP sniper rifle lately, trying to land those sweet headshots. The adrenaline rush you get in CS is unmatched, and it's the perfect game to unwind after a long day.
Now, about those CS2 skins – they're a game-changer, seriously. They add a whole new level of customization and personality to your weapons.

I found Baldur's Gate boring and ended up playing Edge of War more than it

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1786070/Edge_of_War/

In some ways it's similar, clearly they copied the Divinity Original Sin games, it uses an almost, but not quite D&D system, and it's unfinished (and might end up that way, as the publisher dropped it so the developers are working on it best they can) but it's actually fun.

One of my best gaming purchases this year was a Retron-77 which plays actual Atari 2600 carts (of which I have 100s) on a TV with HDMI and has an actual, durable joystick (unlike those Flashbacks that have POSes). Atari announced their own version, albeit for twice as much money.

If MMOs count, then I've been playing a lot of Embers Adrift lately.  Still a lot of development work to do, but it really gives a good old school vibe and the community has been fantastic.

Banjo Destructo

I'm back on Landlord's Super, just a fun little game.

Lurkndog

Just ordered a PS5 Slim, it arrives tomorrow. It comes with Modern Warfare whatever, and Astro's Playroom. I also ordered Stray and Cyberpunk for PS4, as there is apparently a good update for the PS5.

Oh is that actually good? I just went and culled a bunch of CRPGs off of my Steam Wishlist, including that one. But I was assuming it was real-time-with-pause, rather than true turn-based. Maybe I should add it back.

I'm back into Eve Online for a while. Man, they have improved the starter game. Lots of starter missions and career path guidance to get new players rolling.
It's still a dense game with a steep learning curve, but this is much better than when I started many years ago.
Game's free to play with an "Alpha" clone. Alphas have some limitations compared to an "Omega" subscription, but new players will take a while to get to that point.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.
