This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Has anyone played this game?  It's a fantasy ship game by Spartan Games.

The minis look fantastic and appear to be reasonably priced, but very few of the places I've looked have reviewed the game with detail on the system.  I don't need a breakdown, but I trust the folks on here to steer me towards a cool game...and I trust your opinions.

So, has anyone played it or at least read it?

Played it. Not super deep, yet, just pushing ships around with my son. I have a basic Dragon Lord fleet and an Orc fleet. It's more complex than Iron Stars, but less complex than I remember Man O' War being. Way less complex than Wooden Ships and Iron Men. The ships are 1:600, so they're big and pretty easy to paint--that's a factor for me. The game can be played with comparatively few ships on a reasonably-sized table--that's also a factor. They do look really good. Windage and magic and the cards--providing various modifiers and conditions--keep the game interesting. I don't want to attempt a review based on a couple not-particularly-competitive games, but I definitely have enjoyed it so far, and expect to for a while. It passes the "cool" test.

Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Yeah, its a fun game, though its heavily luck dependent.  You normally need 4-6 on a D6 to score a hit.  If you roll a 6, you get to roll another die.

On one hand this is good because it means even a little ship has a small chance at hurting a big one.  On the other a winning player has the potential to become more winning if he can roll enough 6s.

Its a good value and great fun, but its not a DEEP game.  Its largely in the Warhammer 40K category of dice rolling minis mayhem, without the uber army lists and lots more importance placed on maneuver.

And I has some boats painted:

Note the 1/600 scale tank in the picture for size comparison.

Now Here is my ships in action!

Here is part one of my second ever battle of Uncharted Seas, demoing it to 3 other people here in Southeastern CT USA.
