Just reinstalled my good old Ghost Recon PC game, and Im having a blast.

So, what Spec Ops games are out there in the vein of Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and ARMA computer games ?

By the way, given the amount of tactical combat -focused designs out there in all medias (D&D3e, D&D4e, Shadowrun, MMOs, First Person Shooters, etc) this genre should have more popularity in the tabletop roleplaying environment, no ?

King of Old School

The Company is pretty good, if you like BRP.

KoOS

Ladybird

I really liked Spec Ops : The Line, but it's got a... pointed... message to it. Possibly not for everyone.

But realistic manshoots aren't really my thing.

I know it's not a popular flavor around these parts, but I thought that Ultramodern 4e would be a fun system for spec ops, at least if I wanted to emphasize tactical action situations and combat scenes.

I think it depends a bit on what aspects of "spec ops" you want to emphasize.  Since you mention video games as inspiration, a modern 4e would seem like a good fit.

If this Ultramodern is based on 4e D&D, then yes, this is exactly what Im talking about! Regardless of realism levels, 4e (and 3e too) have a great tactical sinergy, that I think would be totally at home with a spec ops-like game.

I imagine an assault team clearing a building for rescuing hostages, where each member has a specific role and specific abilities.

It would be awesome. No ?

Yes, I think so. :) And yes, I was talking about D&D4.

The SRD for Ultramodern is available for free.  Check it out.
