This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Did the man suspect the soup was harmful?

WAS the soup, in fact, albatross soup?

Was he an ancient mariner?
Did he stoppeth one of three?
By thy long grey beard
And glittering e'e
Now wherefore stoppest thou me?

The man was once shipwreaked or in a similar set of circumstances.  Desperately hungry, some of the survivors prepared what they claimed was "albatross soup".  The man has always wondered whether or not it was actually sea bird flavoured or whether it was "long pig".  When this albatross soup tastes different to the one he had then he has a sudden attack of guilt, believing himself to be a cannibal

Right?

What an excellent question...

But again, it is not a yes or no question.

Right?

I'd like to see this answered. :)
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.

It's bleeding sea-bird flavour, isn't it!?!?

(did "The It's Man"/"The Hermit" make it to this incarnation of the boards? I haven't seen him)

Sorry...

That answer is pretty close.

The version I was taught goes somethign like this...

A blind man goes on a sea voyage, and is shipwrecked with several survivors.  Soon, desperation sets in, and they are forced into cannibalism.  To spare the blind fellow the guilt of the ordeal, they tell him that he's eating albatross.  Later, after they are rescued, he goes to a restaurant and orders albatross soup, since he had actually enjoyed the taste of albatross when shipwrecked on the island.  But it doesn't taste the same...  The realization dawns on him, and he kills himself from the guilt that his fellow survivors had intended on sparing him from.

he was in the navy. he was stranded on an island and the gen/captain had made albatross and "human" soup and then randomly gave soup to people to keep them feed and alive. he had the soup that was made of human. he did not know this till the real albatross soup tasted differently.
