What if the Wii is going to have a similar lifespan as Nintendo's portable systems?
Hear me out.
The game boy advance came out. The screen was shitty but the games were good, plus it was cheaper than the competition (NGPC) and played old Gameboy games. Then 1.5 years later The GBA SP came out. Smaller, more lightweight, light up screen, Etc.
After that we got the GB Micro, which was a tiny version of the GBA, and the DS, which played advance games and DS games. Than, about a year later we have the current DS Lite. A slightly improved version of the DS.
So, now we got the Gamecube. It's no big secret that the Wii is an upgraded version of GC hardware. Hence the full backward compatibility with GC games. What if, in say 1.5 years, they put out the upgraded version of the Wii. Say a Wii the size of an iPod or a Wii built into a TV, or a Wii that plays MP3's. It's still just as functional as the Wii I'm buying on Sunday, but it's "cooler" or More convenient.
I'll bet dollars that Nintendo is working on a Current-Gen Wii Followup as we speak. A "new" Wii with a bigger flash drive and some other nick-knacks for us to buy in a couple summers from now.
