This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

And now we have a Kickstarter:

The Misery Index: Terrible Games about Terrible Realities

QuoteA collection of eight tabletop games about human suffering.

The Misery Index will be a collection of eight tabletop games about human suffering. Each game approaches a different miserable topic with unique mechanics. Our games tackle subjects ranging from racial and cultural violence to sexual abuse, class conflict, and mental illness, and do so through the lens of multiple genres, including science fiction, sword and sorcery, cyberpunk, supernatural horror, and superhero fantasy.

I hope it fails.
"These children are playing with dark and dangerous powers!"
"What else are you meant to do with dark and dangerous powers?"
A concise overview of GNS theory.

Coincidentally, a game about the sense of vague depression bought on by a failed kickstarter project is one of the stretch goals.

Quote from: VectorSigma;525227Would you guys have any interest in my Capricorn: Forbidden Desires game?  I mean, right now it's just a game about people that fuck goats, but I could tweak the setting so that the goats are an oppressed minority or something if you think that's better.  I really need an editor who can compensate for my white male cis-priv style.

Anyone heard anything about this being a bona fide attempt to troll via kickstarter?

Does that add up, really?

There's over a year and a half of consistent, documented work here.

You can read the games. You can play them right now.

We have a well respected guy doing our layout. We've posted specs for the book.

Rudy and I have done multiple interviews about the project.

I can understand people thinking that there might be a tongue-in-cheek aspect to the games themselves, but we are 100% committed to delivering exactly what we've promised.

They are genuine. I remember how we all were having a chuckle, as the site went up on April's Fools and we patted ourselves on the back and chuckled and said "Hah, such a wicked joke at those Storygamers expense".

And then we saw the site remain.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

I think that's a rumour created by those that want it to be true.

This is the only conclusion that makes sense to me.

The dude on RPGnet says he has some kind of inside source, but there's no way that's true, because there's no one working on this project but Rudy, Jonathan, and myself.

And I've never had a conversation with anyone about the project that could even be misconstrued as "har, har, we're trolling them dudes."

It's just a really weird rumor. I can't make sense of how it got started unless someone saw the project, said, "Damn, that must be a troll," and then decided to concoct a story to back up that conclusion.

That would be Topher in action once again.

I'm now in a weirdly dissonant place where I can't decide which of the sides is creepier and less worthy of support.

I know the entire project is in poor taste, but I think using a stylised version of that Kevin Carter photo as a logo is just about the poorest taste thing I have ever seen in an RPG.
Read my blog, Monsters and Manuals, for campaign ideas, opinionated ranting, and collected game-related miscellania.

Buy Yoon-Suin, a campaign toolbox for fantasy games, giving you the equipment necessary to run a sandbox campaign in your own Yoon-Suin - a region of high adventure shrouded in ancient mysteries, opium smoke, great luxury and opulent cruelty.

Creepy, creepier, creepiest; they're all creeps.

Still, Topher's against these guys, so that's a mark in their favour.

Is Fetus Commander still around? We could get him to start a thread about it.

Apparently, it's now mooted as an RPGsite sponsored troll - despite the evidence in this thread that they've been trolling this site for months.

Flatterer!  Actually the reference is to an old thread here somewhere where I talked about "Capricorn: Forbidden Desires" being the one-shot angsty storygame version of the pulp-action trad-rpg "Goatfuckers, Inc." - ie, could one 'reskin' a trad game to appeal to a more 'marketable' market etc etc.

Best of luck with your Kickstarter, regardless.
Wampus Country - Whimsical tales on the fantasy frontier

"Describing Erik Jensen\'s Wampus Country setting is difficult"  -- Grognardia

"Well worth reading."  -- Steve Winter

"...seriously nifty stuff..." -- Bruce Baugh

"[Erik is] the Carrot-Top of role-playing games." -- Jared Sorensen, who probably meant it as an insult, but screw that guy.

"Next con I\'m playing in Wampus."  -- Harley Stroh
