Title: Jesus fuck this board is huge
Post by: RPGPundit on November 10, 2006, 09:47:34 PM
Well, I got Conquest of The Empire, and holy fuck is this board huge.. I mean inconveniently huge. It measures 1.17meters x 0.92 meters long!

I mean fuck, I'm going to have to get a special table made!

Jesus fuck, I haven't run the game yet, but I have to ask, was it really necessary for Eagle games to make the board this ridiculously huge?? Does the game really require it? Or is most of the board going to just be dead space?

I don't have that game but I've seen it played and have played some other Eagle games. They all tend to have huge boards. Some have a lot of pieces in play but yeah, huge boards. We usually wind up using the miniature games table for them and a card table for the parts. >.<

Conquest didn't need that board from what I've seen.

Eagle games had potential, and they had a lot of licenses/revived games, and I liked the pieces, but the rules often need patching and some of the games were just too much.

Is this the same game as the old MB Gamemaster Series Conquest of the Empire?  Where victory more or less hinges on your highway network?

I don't know how much CoE is like their Civilization game, but when it came to that one, it most definitely was.  There was so much shit liable to be on a given part fo the board in any given spot, that the territories basically needed to be the size of a planet.

Plus, massive boards just seems to be one of Eagle Games things, just like lots and lots and lots of little plastic minis that take hours to punch out and cut your fingers to hell in the process.

I have to say the quality in this one is very keen.  The pieces were already all punched out, ready for play, and very intricate.

And yes Conquest of the Empire is the same as the old MB game, but its also got a second game in it that's a far more complex game that has nothing to do with the original. So you get two rule-sets for the price of one; not a basic and advanced game, two totally different games with different feels.
