This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Who loves this and why?  If you don't you need to. I'm mostly a miniature wargamer and this is my all time favorite game.  Check it out and let's talk about it.

Better yet, tell me more about it. I have been considering trying it as I like their models. I am a big WH40K fan, so I have experience with miniature wargaming, but not with Infinity.

There are several things that make the game appealing

1.  The scale of the game. It's a skirmish game where each soldier acts independently.  The average army on the table is 10-15 models or so.  This makes entry into the game affordable.

2.  The game really represents the future of combat quite well.  Light infantry mix with power armored units, drones, and even small mechs.  There's technology everywhere.  From thermo optic camouflage to combat hackers.

3.  The gimmick is "it's always your turn". The combat system has an automatic reaction where if you are shot at on your opponent's turn, you get to shoot back at a burst disadvantage.

4.  As you mentioned, the models.  I think they're the best in the industry. Although GW is making a comeback in that department.

I have the books for it. There was a time I was seriously thinking about building an army.

Would I recommend it? For people whose itch it scratches? Definitely. I have nothing but good things to say about Infinity.

I love the world.  I've heard great things about 8th ed. and the new models are beautiful.  It's just such a commitment of time and money.  I juggle several hobbies and I just can't get into 40k because of it. I'm a huge fan of the fiction.  Have you read Talon of Horus which is what your avatar represents?

Absolutely, both read it and listened to the audiobook version. The books, particularly Horus Heresy era novels are some of my favorite pulp reading. At last count I had 127 40K novels, of which I have read the vast bulk of. Yeah, actually I don't get to play WH40K anymore, but I still collect the models (mostly forgeworld and gw primarchs and chaos, but I have a full Tyrannid army as well.)

What's your favorite?  For me it's toss up between the Eisenhorn series and the Nightlords omnibus.

I really enjoyed the Nightlords series myself (just ordered the Curze Primarchs book), but perhaps the ones I enjoyed the most was the Soul Drinkers series.

I don't consider $7-15 (US) a figure "affordable". But I paint 6mm, which is $6-10 (US) for 20-60 figures. :D

Affordable is entirely subjective... I consider $7-15 affordable, as I usually spend considerably more on the minis I paint. Matter of perspective.

Looks very Rifts (a good thing).

Tell us more about the game - specifically faction balance and length of gameplay.

I'm a 40k fan too (reading the Salamander Omnibus now) and I lean toward small unit skirmish games (like 40k's Kill Team).

Also, wasn't there a RPG for this setting? Or another game called Infinity?

Yes, Modiphius has an RPG for Infinity. But they haven't even come close to getting all of the factions their own books yet. They have a long way to go.

Gameplay is mostly skirmish level. You run your own squad. And that's it.

The game play itself is rather fast paced.

My issue with it? It just came down to my inability choose a faction for myself. So yeah. That's all me. Not the game's fault.

Isn't that always the way? I often have the same problem with WH40K. I vacillate between Tyranids and Chaos Space Marines... and it is largely based (in my case) on which models I like the best at the time.. which is due to the fact I don't get many opportunities to play, but I can still find time to model occasionally. 40th Century problems I suppose....

I have ditched most of my 40k stuff, just have some Tyranids and some Imperial Assassins left (still looking to get rid of those too).  I have a TON of Infinity, and buy it because I like the models.  My liking the models does not equate to having the time to paint them at this time, but I still pick them up when there are good deals on them.

You and me both, I am mainly concentrating on Chaos Space Marines and the higher end Forgeworld Primarchs as collectibles. I did just pick up the Modiphius RPG. It uses the same 2d20 system as does the Conan and John Carter RPG's. Though each has a different flavor, from more gritty to pulpy. I mainly use that stuff for sourcebooks. Though the John Carter model set is as good as the Infinity figures in my estimation. Suppose when I am in my 70's (if I make it that far), I'll finally have time to paint. First world problems.
