Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). How long do you play a MMORPG for?

I played WoW for about 14 months or so.  I may go back if they change their what they are developing.
I play until I cease to have fun.  I will not play a game if it stresses me out.  They are for fun.

   2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
   3. A robot must protect its own existence, as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

That is exactly what ended EQ for me and teh wife.  The guild we were in was full of drama queens, and the real guildmaster never claimed the title back from the guy who got a GM to set it up for us.  He started adding all his friends, and was not making them go through the proper guild joining procedures.  The wife and I had to do it, and we were the newest members, so of course we complained that if we had to do it, so did they.  It turned into a major shouting match in guild chat.  We left the guild immediately, and started playing on our own.  It was a few weeks later that we left EQ behind for good.

I also play games to unwind, not get wound up.

EQ was horrible for guilds....stuff I hated, stepping stone/proving guilds....I was in a very old guild it was mid level, and we had a rep of being a good guild for training and such, so the bigger guilds would send their newbies to us to get trained and keyed and equiped and such then they would get called to the majors....it sucked ass....I also hated guild leaders who abused their position by letting new people in, messing with raid points and such...

My guild is still running in Ultima Online, and has been since they put in the guild system.  The only members are me, the wife, and a few close friends who I met playing the game and turned out to be lasting friends.  Other than that, no one joins.  I also hold the guildmaster title, so no one gets in without my final okay.  Which is fine, since those of us in there don't want anyone else in there. :D

It has been lonely lately, though, on UO, since most of the guild is currently in Iraq.

I love the small guild of tight knit friends.  If I'm required to be in some large guild to get the most out of a game I am very unlikely to stay with it long.

Yeah I hate when a game makes the high end game only for the top 5-10% of players, but not baised on their levels....

Three or four months; by then, I feel I've explored most of the game world and I'm finding it monotonous being on the treadmill, always striving for the next level and seeking to upgrade the equipment in my slots. That's about the time I cancel my account and take a long break from MMORPG's.

I love the first six weeks of a MMORPG, though - it's like a honeymoon! :D I am so totally emmersed in the game and challenged by it, and my thoughts between sessions are often preoccupied with the game.

Depends on the game.  EQ held my interest for a year just because there was nothing else like it.  I got bored with it after I got to level 38 and was being forced to group for my XP and rewards.

City of Heroes was fun for a month or so, then the lack on content kicked in.  I've been thinking of going back to it now that City of Villains is out and it's had some time to get better.

WoW has held my interest like no other.  The combination of soloability alongside decent raid areas and easy to master skills made it a great combination.

All in all, after a while I'll get tired of any game.  Some have what it takes to keep me ponying up the money while others fall flat.

Guild Wars has a PvP aspect?

You know I've completed it with two characters and never even noticed.
