We have a classic, wooden set somewhere in the house. Also, a Go set with a plastic foldable 'board' but genuine stones.

I do have my board, which I made by hand, of wood. (I took a shop class and while everyone was making "Crossbows" that were terrible ones at best, I made a chessboard.)

I've got several of them around but I haven't played in years.  My favorite is a Roman chess set with little centurions for pawns, etc.  I used it in an rpg game once actually, Hall of Risk from Chaosium for Stormbringer.  Excellent game and one of my players all time favorites scenarios (do they still call them scenarios?).

Stealing chess pieces? That's a new low...

Hmm, BTW was there ever an official D&D chess set? That could be interesting, especially if the two sides used different pieces in white and black.

White pawns could be human fighters/soldiers in medival theme. Black pawns could be orcs. The blak queen would just have to be Lolth and maybe the black kind could be von straad.

Not as far as I know.  But the Dragon Magazine forums/lettercols used to have fairly frequent listings of miniatures needed for a Dragonlance chess set.

I had a lovely polished marble chess set. One of the rooks got lost, I still don't know how. It's a decade later and I'm still heartbroken over that.

I also have a clear glass chess set as seen in the first X-Men movie. Been far too long since I've played, though.

I moved into an old house a few years back and found a fun fur chess board with giant 8 inch plastic pieces.  It's been really hard to find reason to get another board, but I think I'd like to try making a 3D chess set from star trek.

If you have a giant fuzzy board, why not just go the extra mile?  Action-figure chess set?

I think I'd start with Ninja Turtles vs. the Foot Clan myself.  Or possibly plastic dinosaurs vs. toy cars and jets.

Yeah. It sucks. I taught my now 22 year old nephew to play on that board. I haven't taught my younger nephew but he has parents into games though I thought they'd teach him, but maybe not.

I've got a couple of old chess sets... but it's been a while since I've played.
I tried to teach my ex-girlfriend but it doesn't move fast enough for her and she prefers games with more players.

I own a couple cheap plastic ones and a little magnetic travel chess. The game is fun, but I'm just not very good - not many people seem to play casually and people who are big into the game blow me out of the water.

i recently started up some chess and either im really rusty and am taking ages to get better again or the windows computer was a lot easier then the engines i am using now
If your having tier problems i feel bad for you son i got 99 problems but caster supremacy aint 1.
