Okay, you're going to have to tell me more than that.  I'm not exactly current on the electronic games market, seeing as I'm playing Final Fantasy VII.  (And Civ IV, but we'll skip over that, since it doesn't help my case that I'm an archaic dinosaur.)

F.E.A.R. is the first FPS I've liked since Wolfenstein 3D (yep, the original one). The AI is fiendishly good, and the game uses Japanese-style psychological terror to great effect.

It's probably just me but I have yet to play a FPS that is gripping, enthralling or puts me on the edge of my seat.  The bit of fear that I played was better then some but after awhile it quickly feels like all the rest.  Same with the big hoopled Prey.  Why I waste my time downloading them I'll never know.  I'm just greatful such a service exists that I'm not wasting money on the same damn game over and over and over again.

You're trying to say that you didn't like games such as MOHAA, Undying, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, HALF LIFE for christ sake????
I confess that FPS aren't good enough lately, but I trully can't believe you couldn't found one of your liking in more than 10 years.

My computer didn't have the required horsepower for them, and I always leaned towards strategy games like the Civ series. What I'd seen (endless clones of Doom and Duke Nukem), wasn't particularly encouraging.

Right now, I have the following games in my computer: Civ 4, F.E.A.R., Diablo 2 LoD, Freelancer and some console emulators. I'm thinking of getting Sid Meier's Pirates! at some point.

What R u talking about???
There were very few Duke Nukem clones, being Serious Sam the only remarkable of them.
As for Doom I strongly believe that almost every FPS is a sort of clone of it, given that Doom defined what FPS are today.

Sorry, but the original Wolfenstein 3D forever became my benchmark for FPS fun. Once you shoot undead Nazis, going against demons isn't that big. ;)

I got a theory, it could be that Jong being older than us, just got used to the old kind of FPS, you know the ones we've heard of but never trully played, like some sort of ancient legend.:D

I wasn't that happy with FEAR. I do respect what they did with it--but the battle-zones seemed pretty similar to each other and, well, kinda drab. They *did* do a bang-up job on the AI and the J-horror stuff was reasonably on target (although it did seem to lack the air of utter incomprehensibility that I associate with Japanese horror).

So, yeah: pretty good technically but it didn't excite me visually.

Hey! I play state of the art games! Tetris, Pac-Man, Pong... ;)

Seriously, I didn't have a good computer to play FPS in the 90s, so I basically skipped the genre until now.
