This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

No ... I fear it with a fear born out of past experiences with similar addictive time-consumers.  I like being able to sit on my deck and listen to the birds without constantly thinking "I should be levelling my Blaster right now."

I have nothing but respect for the folks who can make what looks like a rocking experience into a part of their lives, rather than letting it overgrow them like crazy mimetic kudzu.

Tell us some of the cool-ass shit you've done in CoH?  I love vicariously enjoying the addictions of others! :D

I can't play it anymore.

It was grindy before, but I came back after the Great Big Nerfing, and now it's just too fucking hard, which just makes it even more grindy.

I'm afraid their last free re-activation week backfired, because rather than making me want to return, it made me want to stay away from it forever.  I'm unlikely to even download it again next time they do a free weekend.

It used to be cool, because you felt like a real badass superhero with how much a person could take on solo, it just got dull after a while because you just fought through one randomly generated office block after another.

Now they've taken away that superhero feeling, and instead I feel like a pathetic wuss of a superhero, constantly get the shit kicked out of me, so it jsut feels like a struggle and a half to get anywhere at all, and it's no fun.

Do you ever say anything positive? Ever? And man I'm the depressed one.

I can understand if its not for you, but I still have plenty of fun myself, still feel its superheroic. Oh there are times when its a serious challenge in play to make it through and rescue someone/beat the bad guys, but then again I see that as a feature, its how Spider-man works--things aren't always super easy, over the top, win all the time. Sometimes its skin of your teeth, barely making it victories. Yeah there is "grinding" but there is grinding in all MMORPG's, so *shrugs*

Mind you I still have PC's that have a hard time /dying/ in the game unless I really dig myself an intentional whole (Like taking on a Giant Monster solo..)

..and here i am looking for a downloadable free trial instead of, perhaps, dipping back into WoW.

Frack that then! What's the point of a superhero game where you aren't!

I had a lot of fun with this game at first, and really wanted to like it. Unfortunately I found it insanely repetitive after a while. There were only two or three basic instance variants and a very limited number of adversaries to fight. I liked the superhero theme a lot better than the fantasy of WoW, but there was a complete lack of variety.

It's got great style and a no nonsense approach (although I'm actually a CoV player). All MMO's are grinds, this just doesn't dress it up with long treks to the grind spot.

I played the trial and enjoyed it for the most part. I don't have the patience to grind (I want to do cool shit now, not kill rats, wolves or mooks for hours on end) :raise: .I stopped playing Guild Wars for the same reason.

Hell I would pay just for the CoH/CoV character creator.

I play all the time... my global nick is Something Else or @SomethingElse or however you do that. It's a good time, although I wish I could find a good RP group (I'm current in the process of starting one villainside, we'll see how that goes.)
